6.1 Archon quest spoilers

The new Dain (and sinners) lore kills me. Cause like, when the sinners were first introduced as a concept, he basically implied they were a team. A squad planning to overthrow the despot king and save Khaenri'ah. That they were then corrupted and failed.

But this quest reveals that most of them barely knew each other. They all just knew Dain! They didn't even come to fight for noble reasons, Dain wanted to save his brother, and they went along with it (we technically learned this via the x box wings, but still).

We have Surtalogi, Dain's childhood friend/knight training buddy, who only knew Dain and Ved (the latter just being his best friend's brother). Rerir, also just Dain's friend, barely knows Vedrfolnir, has not met any of the others.

We have a little less on all the Rhine and Hroptatyr relationships, but they also seem to barely know any of the others, other than Dain (and maybe Ved? Probably, but ambiguous).

The great scary sinners of Khaenri'ah, are just a bunch of Dainsleif's friends who let him drag them out in the middle of the night and convince to commit treason with him 😭.

Maybe Rhine and Hroptatyr are more Vedrfolnir's friends, and thats why they ended up agreeing to save him. But honestly, how they were acting didn't give that vibe. It genuinely seems they only ended up agreeing because it was Dain asking. I'd like to imagine after the scene cut (before the sudden cut to them committing treason after Hroptatyr was like, I dont want to though) Dain gave them puppy eyes until they cracked.

But yeah, it's just hilarious to me that Dain casually had some of the most powerful people in Khaenri'ah in his pocket, who would follow him to commit treason with a bunch of other people they only know via their fame (or vaguely through Dain and maybe Ved). They just trust Dain that much. Wild revelation. Dain casually the fulcrum of the Sinners.

Rhiendottir being glad to have her old babysitter (Dainslief) back and her new babysitter (venti) so now she doesn’t need to even worry about watching her kids

Dainslief just saying some ominous shit and then leaving instead of elaborating. Like he’s leading people to the problem but just staring at them expecting them to fix it

Being betrayed by your own people was something you’d never imagined, not even in your wildest dreams.

But then again, there wasn’t much they could do when a very powerful alien invaded your planet. The strongest soldiers had been sent to kill him, only to be killed in return. And if that wasn’t horrifying enough, their bodies were devoured until nothing remained. So, your leader decided to offer him a sacrifice.

And that sacrifice was you.

The decision devastated you for the obvious reasons. Why did they pick you, out of all women? Would a petty human be enough to quench his seemingly insatiable desire to fight someone? You didn’t know. Your chest and head hurt just by thinking about it. Your parents weren’t faring any better, but unfortunately, the needs of many outweighed the few.

Because your feelings were nothing compared to their survival.

“Hah, can’t say that I didn’t expect this.” the alien, whose name you learned was Surtalogi, scoffed. “What a primitive thing to do; sending out a sacrifice to appease me. Do you think that’s what I want, woman?”

You gulped, too fearful to respond.

“Well?”

“N-no.”

“So, what do you think I should do to you? Clearly, you have no strength whatsoever. Even those measly soldiers were far more interesting than you.”

“I don’t know. Just… please don’t attack my home again.”

“A very tall demand from someone so weak, don’t you think? And what are you going to do if I choose otherwise?”

You sobbed helplessly. You hated being in this spot. You hated having the fate of so many people in your hands. You hated this life-and-death situation.

“Please, I’ll give you my body, my heart, my soul! Just please don’t kill them!”

Surtalogi said nothing as he studied your sheer-clothed appearance from head to toe, courtesy of the elders who thought it’d enhance the display. You fidgeted under his gaze, resisting the urge to escape and hide somewhere else. Was he one of those men who were so ambitious to the point of forgoing the pleasure of flesh? Or did he still find you desirable at the very least? There were so many things you didn’t know about him. There were so many things people didn’t know about him. For all his power and condescension, he hardly ever gave any information about himself. He just came over one day and demanded a fight with the strongest warrior in your society.

“Hmph, fine. I shall spare your pathetic home in exchange for your presence.” Surtalogi said coldly. “But remember, one complaint and you shall have their blood on your hands.”

You heaved a shaky sigh, relieved that your little offer worked.

“Y-yes, thank you.”

And thus, Surtalogi accepted you as his sacrificial lamb and brought you from one civilization to another. From one planet to another. From one universe to another. Just like what he wanted. Just like what they wanted. It was a beautiful sight, if only you could ignore the destruction that he left in his wake. Other than that, you obeyed his demands. You indulged his desires. You kissed, hugged, and touched him. Your body bore the marks of his possession, of his strength. Your insides were molded to fit his length. Your lips were trained to moan and sigh for his pleasure.

Because your feelings were nothing compared to their survival.

But you were still an ordinary human who longed for things, for people, from the past. So, you decided to bring it up to him after some time had passed. You hoped it didn’t offend him in any way. After all, it was just a little reminiscing, right?

“I miss my family.”

The fire crackled before you, filling the thick silence between you two. Immediately, your heart picked up as you shifted slightly in his lap. Despite your wish to look behind and see his reaction, you were scared of what you’d find. Surtalogi might be somewhat predictable in his desires, but he was still a force of nature. His claws could easily crush your body right now, and nobody would know.

Nobody would help.

“Tell me, [Name], do you want me to kill them so badly?” he asked, stroking your sides a bit too calmly for your liking. “Because I won’t hesitate to open the portal right here, right now.”

You paled. You were wrong. You were oh-so-wrong about his response.

“That wasn’t a complaint…!” you exclaimed, almost whining.

“Yes, because you implied that you’re not satisfied with me.”

“N-no, that’s not true!”

“Is that so?”

“Yes!”

“Good, because I’ll make you watch it until you realize that I’m the only one you need.”

You teared up, feeling the familiar helplessness within you.

“I’m sorry…”

Surtalogi pulled you closer to his armored chest and buried his face in the crook of your neck, inhaling your natural scent.

“Don’t be. Even the most well-behaved of girls need a lesson once in a while.”

“Surta, please! I won’t say that again!”

“Silence. You’ve given yourself to me, so you must obey me in every way.” He stood up and opened the portal, easily bringing you with him despite your squirming. “Maybe now, they finally have some stronger soldiers. Either way, you won’t ever think about them again after this.”

Because what other game out there just released a new patch with a main quest where you find out that the ancient kingdom that was blasted to smithereens by the gods was committing genocide against its own people and that its “leaders” were corrupt and then twisted by their own greed until they became unrecognizable to those they loved but they blamed the wicked king for his “twisted ways” when they themselves were complicit and not a one of them cared until they were personally affected or scared enough of the regime to do something but then they betrayed even that by submitting ultimately to their own selfish pursuits
