These Smash Burgers with Sweet Onions are the best burgers ever. When you combine the thin, crispy patties with the sweet caramelized onions and classic toppings, your mouth will water.
Ingredients: 1 pound ground beef 80% lean. Salt and pepper to taste. 4 hamburger buns. 4 slices of American cheese. 1 large sweet onion, thinly sliced. 2 tablespoons butter. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Ketchup and mustard for topping. Pickles for garnish.
Instructions: For 10 minutes, heat up a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat. Split the ground beef into 4 equal pieces and roll each one into a ball while the skillet heats up. When you put some ground beef on a hot skillet, use a spatula to quickly flatten it out into a thin patty. Add pepper and salt. After about two minutes, the patty's edges should be golden and crispy. For medium-rare to medium-doneness, flip the patty over and add a slice of American cheese. Cook for another minute or two. Do the smashing and cooking steps again with the rest of the beef. While the burgers are cooking, melt the butter in a different pan and add the thinly sliced sweet onions. Over medium heat, stir the onions every now and then for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until they are caramelized and golden brown. In a skillet, toast the hamburger buns for about one minute, until they get a little brown. Put the burgers together by putting the cheese-covered smashed patty on the bottom bun. Add sweet onions that have been caramelized, ketchup, mustard, and pickles on top. After you put the top bun on, your Smash Burgers with Sweet Onions are ready to eat.
