Hi! Can I request some headcannons with either bede or piers, where the reader has insomnia often and just goes out to play with their mimikyu partner? Will he realize they're gone? Maybe do something to help them fall asleep?

A/N: Sorry this took so long!! More exams still :,) Thanks so much for this request - and no, don't worry it's not too specific at all!! I hope it's ok, but I wrote a little imagine for each instead of headcanons!

Bede and Piers with a S/O with Insomnia

It was late July and the air was warm - not uncomfortably so, but warm enough that you didn't feel that you needed to take a jacket with you as you slipped out of the bedroom that you shared with Bede. You closed the door behind you softly, doing your best not to wake your sleeping boyfriend.

You made your way downstairs, where Mimikyu sat, beside Bede's sleeping Ponyta.

"Mimikyu?" You whispered into the dimly lit room.

Its ears perked up at the sound of your voice and it squealed quietly, padding over to meet you. It followed you as you fumbled around for the key and opened the front door. The air was soft and salty - you could faintly hear the sounds of the waves rolling onto the beach.

You sighed and sat down on the doorstep, lifting Mimikyu onto your lap. It was peaceful living in Hulbury - you liked being so close to the sea.

"Y/N?" Called a hushed voice behind you.

You turned to see a dishevelled-looking Bede standing in the house behind you - still wrapped in your white duvet.

"Sorry!" You replied, sheepishly, shifting over to allow him room to sit beside you. "I tried not to wake you."

He wrapped the duvet around your shoulders, and nestled his chin atop your head.

"It's fine," He mumbled sleepily, gently scratching Mimikyu's ears. “I’m already gorgeous, I don’t need any more beauty sleep. D’you wanna talk?”

“I’m okay,” you responded. “I’d rather just sit; but you should go back to bed - you’re tired.”

“I’ll stay,” He insisted quietly, pulling you closer. “Just to keep you and Mimikyu company.”

“Thanks,” You whispered, he responded by pressing a kiss to the top of your head.

“Piers? You awake?” You whispered into the darkness. Aside from the rain against your window, the room stayed silent; your boyfriend not stirring. You were glad not to wake him - and to not have to explain yourself for getting up at such an ungodly hour. Piers had always been understanding about your insomnia, but you never wanted to disturb him while he slept.

Carefully, you untangled yourself from his arms and slipped out from under the covers. You felt about on your bedside table for your phone - and then, guided by the light from the dimly-lit screen you tip-toed out into the kitchen.

Mimikyu was awake, and it sat up as you walked into the room - it wasn’t surprised to see you awake, instead just looking pleased to have some company. It chirped excitedly, picking up one of its toy balls and scurrying over to you. You smiled to yourself and knelt down on the floor - taking the ball and tossing it across the room for Mimikyu to chase.

Maybe about an hour had passed, whilst you sat playing with your pokémon - and listening to the rain against the window. Eventually, you decided you would try and sleep again - so you dragged yourself up off the floor and carried mimikyu back to yours and Piers’ bedroom.

The room was still dark, and your boyfriend had only shifted a little in his sleep - so you climbed back into bed with ease, tucking mimikyu in beside you as it squeaked with content.

Suddenly you felt Piers’ arms wrap around your waist and you were pulled into his chest.

“Hey.” He said hoarsely. “Can’t sleep?”

“Yeah - sorry.” You replied and you felt his chest rumble with a quiet laugh.

“Don’t apologise - what’re you even apologising for?”

“I don’t know,” You admitted. “Waking you I guess?”

“Don’t worry, love.” He whispered into the darkness.

For a moment, you lay together, contently - enjoying the company of one another. Then Piers spoke, “I’ve been writing a new song - it’s not finished or anything, but-”

“I’d love to hear it.” You grinned - cutting off his sudden rambling outburst - and he laughed, relieved.

“I’ll get my guitar,” He replied.

Hot take: The player is the antagonist in Pokemon Sword and Shield

In pokemon Sword and Shield, I feel like there's much more emphasis on the goals of your rivals- Hop, Marnie and Bede. I know the role of the player in pokemon is always to defeat everyone else in the game. However, in swsh, your victory is always at the expense of another rival.

Instead of brushing off defeat with the 'I'll beat you next time' mindset, your rivals generally have heartfelt reactions. In Hop's case, he gradually becomes less and less confident in his ability to catch up with his brother. In Marnie's case, she similarly looks up to her big brother as a gym leader. In Bede's case, his jerkiness is really down to his desperation for someone to care for and see potential in him.

By calling the player an 'antagonist', I don't mean that they are an evil character. An antagonist is a character who opposes or causes adversity to the dreams of the protagonist(s). Does the player fit this definition? I think so. Not only do you defeat your rivals at every hurdle, but you eventually crush their dreams to become Champion in an official tournament, televised to the whole of Galar. (I still feel bad for defeating Hop 😭).

On the other hand, your opposition to Hop, Marnie and Bede is what causes them to carve a different path for themselves. How do protagonists deal with adversity? They keep fighting to figure out what's best for them. Bede and Marnie become successful gym leaders, while Hop decides to become a pokemon professor.

In the case of Chairman Rose as a classic antagonist, I think whether or not he's really an antagonist is debatable. Yes, his plan ends with darkest day number two (which is pretty bad lol), but he doesn't realise before how dire the consequences of awakening Eternatus will be. As a perceived 'villain', his actions are much worse than that of the player. Despite this, Rose doesn't really fit the definition of an antagonist, because he doesn't intend to oppose anyone. He initially thinks that awakening Eternatus will be the right thing to do for the people of Galar. He doesn't anticipate the disasterous results that follow.

The theme of the player being an antagonist is definitely there in some other pokemon games (such as your defeat of rival Barry who looks up to his Dad, and so on). However, I think this is more explicit in swsh, due to the weight of the impact of your victories. All three of your rivals (more so Hop and Bede) go through a journey of self discovery, due to your influence on them.
