Alex and Magnus are the worst couple ever. How do I explain this to someone so that they'll see what I mean? Well, let's start with the way that Alex never shows any emotion besides teasing and snark. They're always taunting and teasing. Alex is always making Magnus the butt of their jokes, yet they kiss him when they think they're both going to die. And they alex leaves magnus alone and tries to never let him talk about it. After a full 300 pages of alex being nothing but a bully to magnus. We're supposed to like this… how!?
Magnus is also clearly not in love with her. Because I know people. And I know that I would never be in love with someone who bullied and/or teased me. But apparently rick riordan doesn't understand humans don't like being teased. Because every scene now has to have Magnus discussing how amazing he finds alex. How much he thinks of her, how much he loves his outfits, how much his (pretty much) bully is attractive to him. I know stockholm syndrome doesn't really apply here, but that's sure what it feels like.
Oh, and other characters are now getting involved with the teasing. Sam openly seems to tease Magnus about his "feelings" for Alex, and that feels so out of character for them. I literally don't see how the character I just read two other books about would suddenly start being a teaser and an avatar to push along this railroaded farce of a romance. Fierrochase is a romance in name only. It's a railroaded thing set up by rick riordan to guarantee magnus has someone to spend the rest of eternity with. And I like that part. I like that rick wants his characters to always end with happy endings. But I don't like how much he ruins magnus and alex and all of his other characters to get us to this point.
Personally, I think Magnus x T.J. would even make more sense. Those two have chemistry, and they don't have a horribly toxic relationship built on teasing. Magnus x T.J. is the only acceptable ship for Magnus, and i want more fanfiction and fanart about it. Because fierrochase makes me so uncomfortable to read about. I wasted 20 minutes of reading time at school to write this note, all because reading about alex x magnus in the actual book is driving me up the wall!
