"Tell me something earnest and true, Joke Boy. Show me your truest heart."
"You mean my poem?"
She released him, sitting back and straddling his hips. "Yes," She said. "Your poem."
On the third week of lockdown, they'd taken to trying on each other's passions like other couples might wear each other's clothes.
Alfred's laughter tapered off after the last few lines Anya delivered. His stomach ached from how hard he'd laughed, in all honesty, and maybe a part of him was a little jealous that he wasn't certain he'd ever earned such a reaction from her.
"That was great," He said all the same, because he certainly wasn't going to lie. "I do have some notes-"
"I don't care," She countered, tossing her pale hair over her shoulder. Alfred fell silent for a moment, not out of obedience, but simply to take in every detail of his girlfriend-slash-shutdown-enforced roommate.
Anya was the sort of gorgeous that couldn't be born that way. The universe couldn't allow something so gorgeous to come so easily. She had to craft herself, taking the block of marble that was her body and unveiling the beauty beneath strike by strike, bit by bit, becoming more and more of Herself with every passing hour of existence.
Also she was really really fucking tall and had the kind of body that Alfred wanted to break himself upon, so she had a lot going on.
"What were we talking about?" Alfred said dumbly.
Anya fixed her violet gaze upon him, her eyelashes so pale they made him yearn for youth filled snow days, instead of the sneaking embrace of a summer spent in captivity due to the virus currently ravaging the world.
"You said you had some notes," She finally said.
"Oh. Right. Note one: you're gorgeous."
"Ah, we are going with the dreaded compliment sandwich here," She nodded slightly, a smile tugging at her pink lips. Somehow, even lounging in one of his shirts (it was too tight on her, and left a strip of her belly exposed) and a pair of pajama shorts, she still took the time to do her makeup each and every morning. "I enjoy this. Please keep heaping the praise on me."
Alfred glanced down at the few notes he had somewhat genuinely scribbled to critique the 'tight 5' set Anya had put together for him. And then he opted to close it, because really, she was never going to go to an open mic comedy night, and he'd rather get laid than be correct.
"Note two: you're beautiful."
"Now you are getting repetitive."
"Note three," He considered another synonym for her looks, then finally said, "…the slurs were a little much."
"And?"
"And, I mean, you might have lost a more general audience."
"Do I care for a general audience? No. I care for your audience."
"Well-"
"I offended you?" She laughed. "You considered calling your tour 'The Bonus Hole Boy' and you call me offensive?"
"That was just a brief consideration, and it doesn't matter now anyway." The pandemic had thoroughly cut down any chance at touring, and the lack of practice almost certainly ensured he'd lost most of the audience he'd worked his best to build up. Because somehow, despite no one having anything better to do, his views online were down, and-
"Don't make your face so sad," Anya tipped his chin up with her manicured fingers, then softly pecked his lips with her own. He felt her lipstick smear against him and couldn't help but grin triumphantly at the contact. "So your notes are basically my beauty alone."
"No, you were funny." He sighed. "You're funnier than me."
"This is true."
"Yeah, but I'm the one that's supposed to get paid for their jokes."
"And you think money is the only indicator of glory? Silly, pathetic little man."
"Hey," Alfred pointed at her. "I'm not little."
"You are such a small man."
"I am not!"
"I tower over you."
"Maybe you're just freaky tall."
"Maybe you need to be pulled into my lap, little boy, and taught your place."
Alfred perked. "You mean it?"
This time, she laughed. He collected every moment of her giddiness, tucking it close to his heart. "You still have not shown me your skills," She pointed out.
"What do you mean?"
They were seated on the floor, despite the unoccupied couch. She moved onto her hands and knees, crawling over to him. She kissed him again, then shoved him back, so he was laying on the floor.
Her body hovered above him, grabbing his wrists, pinning them above his head. He felt her shorts shift with her movement and heard himself whine with the urge to tug them off her. His fingers curled helplessly.
"Tell me something earnest and true, Joke Boy. Show me your truest heart."
"You mean my poem?"
She released him, sitting back and straddling his hips. "Yes," She said. "Your poem."
Alfred cleared his throat. "I wrote something special for you, babe, trust and believe."
"I can do neither of those things when it comes to you."
"Hey!"
Another soft laugh, once again whittling away his resolve to be upset.
"Tell me your poem."
"Roses are red," Alfred said. She rolled her eyes, but he continued. "Sunflowers are yellow."
"Oh brother-" Her accent made the words impossibly adorable, despite her frustration.
"Anya, stop, this is the good part." He tried his best to sit up on his elbows, and mildly attempted not to focus on her weight on his lap. "When I'm with you, I'm a less lonely fellow."
"This guy stinks," She said.
Alfred's eyes lit up. "Did you just drop a SpongeBob reference?"
"Did you really try to romance me with a 'roses are red' poem?"
"Maybe, if it worked."
She moved forward, licking her lips, then brushing her large nose against his. "It did not," She purred, then stood, walking out of the living room.
"Hey!" He scrambled up. "Where are you going?"
"The bedroom." She stopped at the edge of the hallway, gripping the wall and looking back at him with her mysterious little smile. "Maybe if you can show some sincerity, I'll let you in too."
"I'm sincere! Sincerely wet. Babe? Babe! Don't leave me alone out here! I can try haikus if you'd rather!"
