Kind of both, honestly. Cause fate always seems to align in such a way that Bruce gains children.

Dick's parents died in front of both of them, and he took him in.

Jason stole his tires and needed help, so he took him in.

Tim just wormed his way into Robin after Jason's death.

Damian's his bio kid, who got dropped on his doorstep at ten.

Barbara operates mostly independently, but she drifts.

Steph was trying to stop her dad when Bruce first found her, and then at some point she dated one of the boys, wormed her way in, and never left even after the breakup.

Duke's parents are entirely out of comission and he was also part of a 'We Are Robin' movement (idrk either)

and Cass also came from the LoA and a shitty family, so she just kinda gravitated to him.

Bruce is kinda like a balm to orphans and abused kids alike, so that's my best answer for ya Rae

My brain is currently hooked on the VR46 academy as children. So im adding the rosquez divorce to the equation and assigning the boys different attachments types because my early childhood development class for this semester just ended.

im also gonna exaggerate the age gaps of the academy boys for funsies so. Franky is 12, mig is 9, pecco and luca are 7, bez is 5, cele is 2. franky, mig, pecco were all conceived before they got married/dated. Luca is still Vale's brother but Vale has custody of him.

Franky has a secure attachment with Vale and they have a close relationship! Vale takes Franky on the boy equivalent of daddy-daughter-dates. while he understands that Marc is also his parent he doesnt quite have the same levels of attachment with Marc since Franky is old enough to understand that Marc is a step parent and since Marc hasn't been apart of his whole life they dont have as close as bond. When Marc and Vale divorce Frankys not impacted personally a lot, but he is frustrated since he ends up being the one to watch his younger brothers after bad fights.

Mig is also securely attached with Vale and also Marc! Despite not spending his whole life with Marc, Mig has found that Marc is a very good parent and he enjoys their time together a lot. he dosent distinctly have a favorite parent, but Vale gets the upper hand by a little simply on the bases that hes been his dad longer. When the Divorce happens hes pretty upset, often throwing tantrums about wanting Marc back because he misses Marc, but he quickly gets told and learns that Marc isnt going to be coming back.

Pecco has an anxious attachment for both Marc and Vale. he used to be more securely attached with vale, but as the marriage started to go south he started to become more anxious and pulled away from both parents. Pecco had the unfortunate seat of somehow always being there to experience the fights between Marc and Vale. and while they never turned anything onto him, he was always there to hear the degrading words, plates getting thrown, the screaming, the slamming doors, everything. He tried to separate Marc and Vale during a particularly bad fight, but after seeing the anger and hatred on their faces when they looked at him was something he never wants to see again. so now he just suffers from the next room over, preventing any of his younger brothers from hearing the scathing words being thrown.

luca has a secure attachment with Vale, but in the way you would with an older brother. Hes happy living with Vale and he enjoys Marcs presence too. and while Vale isnt his dad and Marc isnt his dad either, Luca still sees the other kids as his brothers and vice-versa! He has a pretty similar experience as Franky in terms of relationship with Vale, getting a lot of attention and love from him as his younger brother. His view on Vale shifts towards the end of his marriage though since Vale decided to choose Luca as his "ranting person" whenever he would drink or after bad fights. He hears all of Vales thoughts on Marc as they reach the point of divorce but he understand that all the blame dosent deserve to be on marc, that Vale is also apart of this and should be blamed too. he ends up lowkey becoming the family "therapist" during/after everything.

Bez has a secure relationship with Vale and Marc. But since he is a daddys boy Vale is his favorite parent and he makes it very apparent. during Bez's early life he spent most of his time with Vale, since for Bez's birth vale decided to temporarily become a stay at home dad while Marc was out getting that bread. then once Marc and Vale start fighting Vale talks to Bez sometimes about Marc, sqewing Bez's perspective on Marc. and since Bez is young and gullible he belives all the things that Vale is saying about Marc. Once the divorce goes through Bez to start to resent Marc. resenting him for causing such stress in the family and taring it apart. during dinner (post divcorce) and everyone is at the dinner table eating Mig or Cele mention that they miss Marc and Bez says "well. hes not coming back. he tore this family apart." and Luca and Franky give him a look of pity which he assumes is for Mig/Cele.

Cele has an insecure ambivalent attachment due to being a "trying to fix a divorce with a kid instead of actually getting a divorce" child. during the first year both Vale and Marc are attentive because they understand that the first year needs a lot of help, coming together to take care of a baby and putting aside their fights for the time being. once Cele turns 1 vale starts to slowly pull away so Cele starts to rely on Marc more. around this time though, the fights start to get worse and Marc starts to sleep/spend days at Alexs house, leaving Cele to not have a consistent parent to take care of him. Once Vale and Marc actually divorce (vale has full custody of everyone) Vale starts paying attention to Cele again but in so good ways. For a while Vale will love bomb Cele, taking him on special trips and spending a lot of time with him before getting really distant once he realizes (again and again and again) that Cele has so many traits of Marc. eventually Cele would get pretty upset during a dismisant faze so he brings it up to vale, where vale is like "oh im being a bad parent. ill fix that :)" then love bomb. its a repeating cycle.
