Young children use their attachment figure as a secure base for exploring understanding the world around them. The relationship between child and caregiver lays the groundwork for interpersonal connections throughout the lifespan. When attachment is derailed, children may display confusing behaviors and struggle to trust even loving, safe caregivers. Although this is a sobering reality, there is hope for these children.

Saturday we are celebrating our adoption and the first birthday of Sadie Grace. Our journey this far has been all Christ, we never set out to adopt, foster care for us was a mission field and our way of giving normalcy and safety to children in foster care and their families. Our family has changed and continues to change and we are better for it. Churches, pastors send out families who foster as you would missionaries because they are dealing in spiritual warfare. Even post adoption there are so many issues that the families have to deal with. So, grow where God plants you, ask Him if you can foster or come along side and be a Villager in support (baby sitting, food, prayer, etc). “I have been crucified with Christ. For me, just the overarching concepts of child development and the data-backed message that every child is wired for connection has bolstered hopefulness on parenting children from hard places.
