Objective & Action

A follow up to the previous video I made for my students. I realized as we began scene work that key concepts we’d usually explore through exercises and class work needed to be explained in a manner that wasn’t just a lecture.

So... this is unusual. But these are unusual times. I rarely put myself online, but in order to introduce scene work to my students during Virtual School, I felt like I had to make an example (...of myself).

First week of teaching Theatre classes

Baaahhhh (I'm a sheep now), what can I even say? Both my classes went fantastic! The first one is called Teen creators (ages 13+) where teen pretty much create their own show and do everything from writing the script to designing the sound, light, and costumes. The second one, Act III (12-13), I can already tell will be a hilarious class full of many comedic moments. Truly a dream team this year!

Double Run Sunday is the beginning of the end.

Traditionally, the Sunday before an opening of a show at our school is the first tech rehearsal and first costumed rehearsal.  We run the show--you guessed it--twice.  

It's a long day--we have it booked for 12-7 p.m..  

After that we run full dress rehearsals Monday through Thursday before opening FRIDAY, NOVEMEBER 9!

They went off book early this week and it's been rocky.  The band made it to state finals, which is tomorrow.  Both drum majors are Proctor and Danforth, and over half the cast is also in band.  So, they just need to do that, brush their shoulders off, and be ready to focus on THIS now.  

I've been texted with reassurance there will be line runs in the drum majors' hotel room tonight.  

If I'm light in posting this week, it's because I'm in a dark corner, rocking back and forth.  

(But first, I'm going to use tomorrow to get caught up on grading and see a movie with my fiance!)
