ahh the third book in this absolutely outstanding series. i still can’t believe that i am close to finishing this all in one day i feel like im a kid learning to love reading again. the thought of america in a strapless red dress with a slit all the way to her thigh absolutely has me screaminggggg. like i cant tell if i want to be america or fuck america. either way, i’d be okay. 

america really is the ideal girl to come out as a one. like she literally said hey screw these rebels just fight back for gods sake. like oKAY QUEEN (princess but soon enough, sorry that was so corny). but her and maxon when she realizes that it’s raining outside??? oh my goddddd AND NOW THEY ARE DANCING IN THE RAIN OH I COULD CRY RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOWWW. i like that it’s the rain scene that makes her realize that she loves him, truly. and i like the fact that she doesn’t blurt it out (something i probably would have done to ruin the moment, as i do). but i like that she is still a private person and understands that there is a time and place for everything and (almost) everything she does is calculated and thought out. 

ok so i spoke way too soon because i forgot that she got shot, but i love how they throw marlee back into the mix and they dont forget about her. and i love how maxon takes the time to learn america’s maids’ names. OH you know who aspen reminds me of? gale hawthorn from hunger games??? yes, the entire trio is a total paralell, besides america’s red hair. but maxon being blonde, and aspen being brunett. oh i hate kota so much, he is such an ass.

god the way she first tells him she loves him, how she was planning to tell him before he even told her that they were gonna get married, and how he decided to tell her through photography. AND THE FACT THAT THEY SLEPT TOGETHERRRR AND HE ACTUALLY SLEPT. he wrote her love letters. and now i am going to have to cry myself to sleep. 

HOLY FUCK I FORGOT THAT CELESTE DIES IN THIS WTF.

the queen dying i think was one of the more sadder parts. maybe just because i always wanted the mother figure like that in my life, as i had to raise myself with the help of my sisters. “she said i could call her mom” shattered my heart, but i can’t help but reach my heart out for maxon because she was the only humane thing in the damn place. 

oh my god his fucking proposal makes me cry every time too. goddddd

AND ASPEN WALKING MER DOWN THE ISLEEEEE BECAUSE HER DAD IS DEAD GOD I HATE THIS.

and now there sits an empty hole in my chest as i close out the pdf (bookmarkng it in my illegal books tab to reread later). this is truly such a good series and i am so excited that it’s getting its own movie adaptions on netflix.

-maxon must be 5’8 the way they be describing him

-”call ahead and tell them to go easy on us” maxon you gotta be kinding if you think this girl got ties like that

-”he noted the homemade bracelet I wore. He studied it, seeming confuse, then kissed my hand tenderly” america better pray that maxon dont know what the guards buttons look like. America really dumb af.

-not anne finding aspen in america room omgg can somebody jump him plzz, where the hell is this rod when you really need it.

-”he was in plain clothes, not his uniform” bro i think aspen was meant to be a 6 cause this level of ignorance is unmatched.

-”maxon is gone. This changes everything.” ummmmm no it does not, goofy

-atp they shoulda put cameras in all the rooms cause im tired of them sneaking around

-”i dont like talking about him anyway” ofc you dont, only cause he tryna take your girl

-my thing is if aspen really wanted to make change wouldnt he let america be a princess since she'll actually speak out about all the nonsense going on. Cause if you take her, maxon is gonna marry someone else and the exact same shit is going to continue to happen.

-”slowly, he lowered me to the mattress of pillows” i want them both to die

-”there was a newfound confidence there, something instilled in him through becoming a two” why not a one, imagine the confidence a one could have 

-”when this was all over, would i be a two or a one?” bro this wack ass caste system. The only reason cass set it up like this was to make it seem like there was a real competition here, but wth kinda comp is it between a prince and a guard, like sir you are THE HELP,

-america is just greedy asf, maybe she needs a poly relationship since she cant chose.

-”but elise family says they never arrived” oop the prince and king is mia

-not the king saying they there but elise family wth is they at

-not kriss pulling her in the garden to chat about maxon, this finna get juicy

-”i think you and i might be neck and neck at this point” oooppp she saying yall is equally in the running omggg

-”anyway, he loved it. He said no one had given him a present yet”. Damnnnnnn america you really missed the ball on that opportunity

-omggg he done took kriss to his room and not even miss thing has been

-”anyway he started visiting me during pretty much every free moment he had” im gonna be sick

-he aint even try to kiss her yet, good

-”i dont know how you feel, but i love him” damn. Miss home of the brave couldnt even say that and here go kriss confessing easilyyy

-not the rebels demanding they end the selection, yall dont like a little drama lol

-”kriss left seconds later. Maybe she was making a welcome home card.” lol i sure hope so

AHHHH I DIDNT KNOWWWW I literally just finished the book series like last week and it’s now engraved in my brain. MY FIC WONT BE NEARLY AS GOOD BUT WHEN U READ IT I HOPE ITS GOOD ENOUGH SITJWBRLWNR. I’ll make sure to add you to the tag list!

and so we begin the second book in the selection series. america just told maxon that she wants to be with him and how she doesn’t want to leave the competition and i love the way that they flirt. god it makes me want to get auctioned off into a competition to fall in love. prince or princess (i’m working on the sexuality thing, ok?). oh america just had the family reunion with may and it makes me sad and it makes me think of college and i refuse to think about this right nowww but i do love the relationship that america and may have because it really does feel like a real sister bond. OH MY GOD AND HOW MAXON TALKS TO MAY ABOUT THE DATE AND OMG HE IS SO RESPECTUL I LOVE HIM WITH ALL OF MY HEART. and then later he took her dad to the garden where they were talking and oh my i would die for this boy. even though he is the freaking prince he still took the courtesy of asking her dad for her hand. LIKE THE MANNERS IN THIS BOY.

the scene with marlee and carter always manages to make me tear up a little bit. and the next scene with mason trying to explain to america that he had to shatters a piece of me. 

also another scene that sucks ass is when the southeners attacked and kriss “broke” her ankle, making maxon carry her. like we all know she is only here for the crown and that she doesn’t care about him. i truly do hate her. like she is just some stuck up priss who is worse than celeste. at least celeste is open about how bad of a person she is, kriss just hides it. 

when america finally sees marlee again, it makes me so happy. their friendship was always something that i had admired in this series. i want to find someone like marlee to be my best friend. 

and so i have finished the second book of the series. i think im going to actually be able to finish the entire thing before school tomorrow and that is exhilirating. i did end up crying at one part because of a secret that i forgot i held close to my heart and the book had reminded me but other than that, it was really nice to read this book again. i’ll write again soon dont worry <3

Rereading The Selection makes me hate Aspen even more than the first 3 times.
