all roles are roles
it's honestly so frustrating talking abt theatre w people who don't do it. so much work and study and effort goes into creating something on that stage, and yet the only thing people seem to value is how "big" your part is. ensembles matter too, guys!! tech matters!! the creative team matters!! a show is not made by the main actors, it is made by a huge amount of work from a huge amount of people.
so can we stop saying "aww don't worry, i'm sure you'll get a better role next time" when our friends or neighbours or classmates or whatever get cast or take part in something that doesn't make them the main act. being in one of these other roles is not just a stepping stone to get towards those other ones; you build specific skill sets and work with amazing people and get great opportunities.
i just got cast in the ensemble for a show, and i couldn't be happier. i'm going to get amazing vocal coaching, improve my fight choreo, become a better physical performer,, and yet all i'm getting is "aww that's okay, you deserved better!!". c'mon guys.
throwing a little bit of love out to everybody who has ever worked or participated in theatre, because it can be hard sometimes <3
