I am very excited that Technobabylon got out on iOS today ($5 in iTunes store).
It’s the perfect point-and-click adventure while we wait for Blade Runner and Ready Player One. It’s got really good reviews too.
I started playing the game before, but it was Windows only on PCs, so I rarely dual booted into its sci-fi world. Now I can finally play it on my iPad, yiiissssss!
Two weeks and change ago, our artist was hired by Technocrat Games to design the lead character for their latest point-and-click adventure game--working title Judgement Effect. The character's name is Andi; and, above, readers may find the design and turnaround that our artist created for her. While public details are scant regarding this new Technocrat project, we can confirm that it will use 3D graphics, and that Andi was conceived with 3D modeling in mind.
We thank Technocrat Games for giving our artist this opportunity. The company is part of the incredible Wadjet Eye family, responsible for projects such as the Blackwell series, Primordia and The Shivah--games we cannot recommend highly enough. Technocrat's previous title, Technobabylon, is among the best-respected adventure games of the decade. We cannot wait to watch this new game develop.
Still Eating Oranges
The player frequently switches between characters depending on the needs of the story in Technobabylon, and on top of that, some characters are only found in the in-game virtual reality system known as Trance. While the game makes sure that shifts in and out of Trance are heavily telegraphed, one very smart addition to the UI allows it to be discernible at a glance: while in Trance, all spoken words are displayed over the character saying them. While out of Trance, a character portrait appears across the screen along with the text. This allows the game to ensure that the difference between virtual and in-game reality are nicely separated in ways beyond visual style.
Special thanks to @nonhoration for the request!
So after having it collect digital dust in my steam library, I’m finally getting around to playing Technobabylon and guess what I saw..
