Hella hate how ~being connected to The Internet at all times~ is such a ubiquitous expectation now.
Like, my parents wanted to order pizza hut tonight. As per usual, my mom is paying for it and my dad is going to pick it up. Because Plague, we opt for ~contactless curbside~.
The ordering process requires that you tell them the make/model/color of your car so they’ll recognize you when you get there. Reasonable!
But apparently they’ve also implemented another step: After you arrive, you have to click a lil “i’m here” button that they sent in the confirmation email.
It assumes 3 things that shouldn’t be automatically assumed:
1) You have a smartphone (or some other portable means of internet access)
2) Your smartphone is able to access the internet/able to access your emails.
3) The person who’s picking up the pizza is the same person who ordered/payed for it.
The email address connected with the order is my mom’s. My mom does have a smartphone, but it’s not set up to recieve emails. But that doesn’t even matter, because SHE’S NOT EVEN THE ONE PICKING UP THE PIZZAAAAA!!!
So now my dad is prolly gonna have to call home after he gets there so I can go in my mom’s email and click their silly lil button.
I think it’s perfectly sensible to ask that customers click an “I’m here” button to help ensure that people are able to get their food easily and quickly. But maybe actually SAY somewhere in the ordering process that you’ll need to be able to access the confirmation email when you arrive?? Maybe let people know that ahead of time??
