Reposted from @molecule_of_the_day (@get_regrann) - Citronellol is a naturally occuring terpenoid that can be extracted from plants 🌱 like rose 🌹, geranium and lemongrass. Citronellol has various uses, nearly all related to its flavour and smell. Its most common and longest-running use is to add floral 🌸 and citrus 🍊 notes to perfumes, soaps 🧼 and cosmetics. It is also used as a mosquito 🦟 repellent. Citronellol is the raw material for the production of rose oxide, a fragrant chemical found in roses and contributing to the flavour of lychees and wines 🍷. Interestingly, citronellol has 2 isomers, with the (+) isomer having a more citrus-like scent, and the (-) isomer having a much more intense rose scent. Thanks 🙏 anonymous for the suggestion!
