It's my birthday and I'll post if I want to...

So, yes, I'm 58 today, still playing video games, crushing on fictional characters, and writing fan fiction. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you're too old, too young, or too anything to do whatever it is that makes you happy.

I'm a functional human being who copes with chronic physical illness (atrial fibrillation/diabetes and I survived a pulmonary embolism in 2014), mental illness (anxiety/depression), have spent 28 years in civil service, I'm president of my labor union (unpaid), and I volunteer in local progressive politics to try to make the world better, for all the good that's done.

That being said, I find joy in playing games, posting screenshots, and writing stories. Everyone needs an outlet, and creative outlets are the most stimulating of all, I find. I can't wait to retire, I have so much planned. You should see my unplayed game backlog on Steam.

Trying to avoid too many spoilers because it's still early, but Terran Armada has been a lot of fun!

Quiet moments on the ship's bridge while cruising in the Free Lanes make the entire concept worth it.

I hope other Starfield fans are enjoying the updated material as much as I have been this week. I'm getting back to work on Chapter 25 (!) of Coe-Pilot. I'm looking forward to eventually working some of the new material into my writing. You can find the work here:

The teaser half-hidden in the anniversary post - identified as likely saying 'Terran Armada,' i.e. the new DLC for Starfield! I haven't had a chance to yap about this, so I'm doing it now.

What it could be:

A new faction - We already had one colony/escape ship that left earth before grav drives. It's possible there were more, and that only now are they arriving at their intended location. Perhaps they'll be less willing to negotiate than the residents of the ECS Constant. Perhaps a new culture of 'Terrans' is about to show up, and shake things up in the Settled Systems.

An alliance - I don't think this is as likely, but... alien invasion. In that case, the Terran Armada is the alliance between the human factions of the Settled Systems, responding to the threat. Are the beings who built the temples and created the artifacts going to resurface? Is this going to force the cold war between the Freestar Collective and the UC to end?

Some kind of historical discovery - Starfield loves to direct us to uncovering or engaging with exciting events that happened in the past rather than actually having us live through them. The war is over, Kryx is long dead, Vae Victus is already in prison... I wouldn't be surprised if this is something to do with uncovering events that occurred on or around the original escape fleet. I'd expect in this case that we would return to earth to find clues, find their descendants, find an original ship out there. I honestly think this is the most likely. I'd expect that ship outside NASA that never took off to be opened up as a new explorable area.

A return to earth - This doesn't seem very likely, but we know there are rich folk who care about preserving earth heritage (or looking like they do). Have some of them decided to bankroll some kind of terraforming/rehabilitation project? The word 'armada,' however, suggests an invasion of some kind.

It looks like the DLC won't be here until sometime until 2026, so time to dream until then! In terms of additions, here's what I'm hoping for:

Plenty of companion content - Shattered Space, to me, did not have as much companion content as it should have. Discovering the home of the Va'ruun should, I think, to have led to each of the companions (especially Andreja) having deeper reflections about their own factions and beliefs. And they each should have had more reactivity/challenges with the NPCs. We were practically aliens to the Dazrans, and the justification for us being there was shaky - we should have had to work harder to prove/lean into the 'chosen one' role, or to deceive (as we were clearly being used as a political tool). How we chose to react to that/present ourselves to the residents should have affected our relationships with the companions. They reacted about as much as one of the main questlines, but for a DLC it would be great to have more.

Weapons, spacesuits, clothing - I'm sure we'll get these anyway, but it'd be great to have more unique items.

More ship modules/customisation - Having some original 'colony ship' modules would be excellent. Turn our ship into a facsimile of a historical ship.

A new settlement (or two) - This is a long shot but I would really love more settlements in the SETTLED systems. The main faction planets are just so empty for factions who've managed to maintain a war machine, and manage to build such advanced tech.
