Presenting his kids students. Don't worry, they don't bite (yes they do).
low key thinking to throw in these four into my Red Guys Live AU for shits and giggles
COMMISSIONS OPEN
uh... so... idk what possesed me to make this but uh yeah
have some Tfp dratchet (yall can thanks @y0ureviltwin for getting me obsessed with them lol)
also here are the individual doodles of them :D
yes i made a design for Drift just so i could make this XD
(the filters i used took away Ratchet's eye colors sobs..)
Driftik (>ω<)
I decided to cross the TF RiD 2015 and IDW versions, and the result was this adorable samurai ;3
TFP
Ratchet jolted as pain suddenly rippled down his spine and into his tanks. He leaned forwards on the console keeping both his plating and field close to his frame as he took sallow vents. Now really wasn't the time not when everyone was inside the main room. All Ratchet can do is bite the inside his cheek and hope the pain wouldn't get any worse.
"Ratchet?" Optimus quietly spoke as he walked up placing a comforting servo on the medic's shoulder. "Everything alright?"
"I'll live" He huffed rubbing a servo along his cramping tanks. "But I think its time..."
The prime's optics would widen slightly as he quickly helped Ratchet back onto his pedes before making their way to the med bay. Once inside Optimus got to work gathering up a first aid kit, medical grade and blankets, once everything was set he then returned back to Ratchet helping him onto a medical berth.
"Do you need anything else, old friend?" Optimus spoke while his field flickered with worry despite his stoic face.
Ratchet gave a short chuckle as he made himself a bit more comfortable. "No, I'm fine for now. Besides this isn't my first bitty, I know what to do"
Optimus softly hummed as he gave a light squeeze with his servo. "Though this is the first time that he isn't here" The prime's field then open slightly wider, sending more waves of comfort and reinsurance hoping to show his support.
The medic lowered his helm sighing softly as he returned the squeeze with his own. His amica was right and it frightened him a little not knowing where his conjunx was or if he was alive at all. This was the last precious gift he had left of Drift, no Deadlock and all he hoped for was that somewhere, anywhere he was safe.
------
A few hours passed and Optimus still hasn't moved from his post from standing outside the med bay door. He would poke his head inside every half hour checking in on Ratchet but he remained still not daring to move an inch. Suddenly his finals twitched when the sound of rushing pedes got closer forcing him to clamp down his plaiting as he turned to greet Smokescreen.
Smokescreen's optics were wide as light cuts and dents littered his frame, the young mech's field buzzing with adrenaline and urgency. "Optimus, there's a Decepticon in the base!" He panted as he pointed towards the main room. "Wheeljack and Bulkhead have got him pinned but he's demanding to see Ratchet for some reason"
"I see" Optimus's spark felt heavy as he was suddenly torn. He couldn't leave his amica alone while in emergence, yet he couldn't leave a rogue Decepticon wader about in base either. With a sigh he turned his attention back to Smokescreen and spoke his next words carefully. "I want you to stay here outside this door, Ratchet is not well at the moment so if anything happens comm me and I'll be right here as soon as possible"
"Okay sir"
Once he was sure his amica was in good hand he rushed down the hallway and into the main room to see what damage the Decepticon had caused. Optimus was greeted by the sight of both Bulkhead and Wheeljack struggling to keep a white and grey speedster pinned while Arcee and quickly gotten to work to try and clamp down some statis cuffs on the mech's claws servos. Claws who were still glinting with energon if the fresh deep cuts on Bulkhead's shoulder gave away any clues. Just as Optimus took a few steps closer he spark flickered with recognition, this speedster and Decepticon was no other than Deadlock and judging by his consent thrashing and cursing he likely sensed the panic and worry coming their spark bond. Ah, this was going to take some time to explain.
^_^
Ooooooohhhhh i LIKE THIS!!!!!!
Heya, Blade! I hope things are going well on your end :)
I’m back with my “something new I noticed about Smokescreen” ask! (This was partly driven by your poll. Thanks for tagging me, by the way! I think you know who I chose/voted for, heh).
Hope you don’t mind, but I’d also like to refer to your AU later on down the line for what I’m about to discuss, if that’s alright with you.
So…remember that fight scene between Ultra Magnus–Smokescreen and the predacons in Predacons Rising? While I’m mildly disappointed that the fight ended quickly (wished it had been a bit longer, like the awesome fight between Ultra Magnus–Wheeljack and Predaking), I think the fight perfectly encapsulates not only Smokescreen’s quick–thinking, but also his status as #1 assist. Plus, I acknowledge that it’s 2 predacons vs. 2 Autobots, so…it wasn’t a very fair fight.
Still…maybe it’s because it’s been a while since I re–watched Predacons Rising, but, I just realized how RESILIENT Smokescreen was during that fight.
Think about it, he was: tackled and slammed to the ground by a literal PREDACON, got body slammed by said predacon, was basically treated like a ragdoll before he was THROWN TO A HARD SURFACE AT HIGH SPEEDS, ONLY FOR HIM TO BE PINNED BY HEAVY DEBRIS AFTERWARDS.
Though, much to our collective relief; he was fine! Even managed to do a small celebration afterwards (sidenote: a bit out of topic, but the way his doorwings moved was too cute!)
Meanwhile–and I don’t mean this in an insulting way–the same couldn’t be said for Ultra Magnus, who sustained heavy damage and was basically bound to a wheelchair. (The fact that the movie didn’t even make him say something or react before Optimus sacrificed himself at the end was…a decision *sighs*)
Going back to Smokescreen, I can’t help but wonder how he’s still alright (and not sustain even a bit of damage) after everything that happened to him. I mean, when you compare this fight to the prior Predaking fight, both Ultra Magnus and Smokescreen had to fight two Predacons NOT in their bot–mode, BUT IN THEIR ORIGINAL STATE. (Here’s a scale chart for comparison. While Darksteel and Skylynx aren’t there, just imagine their Predacon forms as being similar to Predaking’s, but smaller).
I...wouldn’t be surprised if Smokescreen did get injured or got knocked out. I mean, even Ultra Magnus, a bot whose bigger and sturdier than Smokescreen, was left badly injured after the fight. (This puzzles me, since not only was he able to tank a LOT of attacks from a very enraged Predaking, but he wasn’t left badly injured after the fact, sans his broken servo. But then again, he was up against Predacons in their OG state this time, so…that may play a role. Maybe I’m looking too much into this)
Anyways…this is where I start to dive into speculation/HC territory in regards to Smokescreen! (Again, hope you don’t mind me referring to some bits of your AU!)
A while ago, we found out that Smokescreen is the descendant of Solus Prime herself. I personally think that plays a part on how Smokescreen was left relatively unscathed after the fight. Referring to my previous ask about Smokescreen’s ties to Solus Prime, aside from his extensive knowledge of her relics and their similar personalities…I like to HC that Smokescreen inherited Solus’ strength and endurance.
While Smokescreen may not be the biggest Autobot, the “strength” aspect is mainly visible with him carrying/dragging relics as well as dragging bigger bots (read: when he dragged an injured Optimus and Ultra Magnus to safety in two separate occassions). Meanwhile, his “endurance” is mainly visible from him bouncing back from difficult situations with relative ease, both inside and outside of the battlefield. There’s plenty of examples of this, the most prominent being how he doesn’t lose his smiles/exuberance and be discouraged despite Team Prime’s mistreatment, and how he’s…coping surprisingly well for someone whose been in stasis for a VERY LONG TIME and for someone who HAD HIS MIND INTRUDED BY MEGATRON HIMSELF.
(Though, I’d like to think that these experiences do affect him, it’s just that he decides to deal with it himself…)
Unfortunately, there’s not much examples when it comes to him in the battlefield (which is why I lament that Prime doesn’t have more Smokescreen–related fight scenes). Though, we do see him tank relatively heavy attacks, all the while doing fine afterwards (ex. we see this happen after he was “hit” by Megatron’s Dark Star Saber, and after his shoulder was shot by Shockwave in Deadlock).
Now that I’ve touched on Solus, I’d like to move on to your AU! Especially how Smokescreen’s circumstances definitely make him sturdier than other bots, despite his smaller yet also well–built frame.
Moving on, we know how Smokescreen’s (and Chromia’s) father, Riptide, is a boatformer, meaning that he's a larger bot who possesses a stronger armor/plating (I remember you mention this before, but please correct me if I’m wrong). While his influence is more apparent in Chromia, Smokescreen would also inherit some of his father’s traits/genetics (especially the sturdiness that comes with having a more fortified plating…maybe it also came with a higher pain tolerance…?), albeit more implicitly.
That said, when you combine that with his rough childhood in the Mithril Sea, trainings with Chromia before his “formal” training began in the Elite Guard under Rocket Plume’s tutelage…it really comes off as no surprise how Smokescreen’s able to fare so well with his fight against the Predacons. The fact that he fared better than Ultra Magnus despite them both enduring the same level of ferociousness from the Predacons (at least from what we know on–screen) says quite a lot about his strength and endurance.
(Though, it goes without saying that he’s not 100% invulnerable, since we do know that he’s still pretty vulnerable to sneak attacks)
Look, I don’t mean to turn this into a comparison Ultra Magnus…but what I’m trying to say is that it would’ve made sense for Smokescreen to get knocked out or even injured after the fight (especially due to his smaller frame type). And yet, he was relatively fine after the fact. But if we want to talk about something canon, there’s also the fact that Smokescreen was hinted/intended to be Optimus’ successor, so, to an extent…that revelation could also play a part.
With all of that said, let’s review…
Descendant of Solus Prime + Riptide’s boatformer genetics + Rough childhood in the Mithril Sea + Relentless training + Worthiness of primehood = Smokescreen’s unusual strength and endurance (and boundless optimism)
In other words; Smokescreen really is something.
My ask has gotten pretty lengthy, so I’ll end it here. You’ll have to excuse me if some parts of my ask feel a bit rambly, or fall into tinfoil hat territory, heh.
As always, thank you very much for reading, and I look forward to your thoughts, Blade! :)
Hey Jazzi! I'm holding up pretty well, thanks. How are you?
Awesome! Thanks! (You're welcome - and aww, thank you. That first gif with Tri-Klops does show where my brain has lately gone though 😅. Maybe I'll share those ideas or something, but we'll see.)
I don't mind at all! That actually means a lot, so thank you!
I didn't remember it so well until you linked it to me, so thanks for that, Jazzi. While you make excellent points about his quick-thinking with the Phase Shifter, in addition to his status as #1 assist, the fight itself is....really not making much sense to me now that I've rewatched it.
Oh heck yeah, Smokescreen's resilient. Bee would've been a crushed tin can if the roles were reversed had he'd gone up against Darksteel!
See, that's where it's starting to make no sense within TFP's universe as it stands (albeit a universe that stands on stilts made of toothpicks.) Realistically speaking, Smokescreen should've been knocked out once he got rag-dolled, and probably have a broken spine after getting tossed into a wall like that. Heck, Magnus' thrashing should've been walked off more easily. At least Skylynx isn't a laughing sociopath like Darksteel is, so there was less rag-dolling.
So, unless the audience (namely us) fill in the gaps, the roles should have logically been reversed, with Smokescreen being wheelchair bound and not Magnus. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he wasn't seriously harmed (even though Smokescreen would at least be suffering internal bleeding), and it's awesome he took it in stride as well as he did (the doorwings bouncing afterwards was indeed cute.)
Yeah, that - how the deuce did Magnus suffer the most? Do the writers just get a kick out of having him suffer physical abuse that gets everyone worried sick about him, while beating the snot out of Smokescreen and leaving him in a state where he's fine but SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED while the team just...doesn't acknowledge him/the beating(s)???
I hate this. (Yeah, we'll pretend that Magnus didn't somehow become mute when Optimus sacrificed himself...)
He should be injured, and given how Ratchet could care less about anyone who he doesn't have any connection to, it's not likely Smokey would (or did) receive medical attention from that malpractitioner. And frankly, referring real quick to the beast modes of Skylynx and Darksteel....logically speaking, as basically baby beastformers, they'd have left about the same damage on BOTH of them as Hardshell did on Wheeljack. As someone who plays around with beastformers - especially the natives of Jungle Planet/Animatros (who, incidentally, would walk the TFP Predacons without even noticing their presence) - virtually anyone in TFP would be bedridden for like two months after going mano a mano with just one beastformer. Now, given their youth, including Predaking's, we can assume that the TFP Predacon trio only trounced our boys by sheer luck and mindless brutality, and if nothing else, Magnus should at least be limping for weeks.
Because if they'd gone up against Cybertron Scourge, no one in TFP would still be alive.
His firebreath is literally so hot, you need to BATHE IN LAVA to be able to withstand the flames for even TEN SECONDS.
I don't mind at all - and thank you!
Yeah, being the descendant of Solus Prime has its perks, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she was watching over him and Chromia all this time. Given too that the Forge (which is ginormous) is her specific relic, it makes sense that not only does Smokescreen have an easier time of lugging it around than even Bulkhead, but explains how he'd be stronger and sturdier than virtually anyone else. His resiliency/endurance is definitely from her as well, because Solus was kind of the emotional wildcard of the Thirteen, yet she still carried on with her work without letting it get to her. She had to have passed that endurance on to him. This is especially prevalent with how he withstood Megatron in his head and the people he'd dedicated his whole life to just passively hating his existence.
(Oh it definitely affects him. But unlike certain bratty Two-Wheelers, he handles it maturely and in silence away from the others...Wheeljack, go give him a hug, you both need one.)
Honestly, given that the Dark Star Saber (which was nerfed from its debut in Armada) is literally of the same power scale as the Star Saber and its dark mirror/match, it is MIRACULOUS that Smokescreen suffered only a K.O. from that hit. Solus is absolutely watching over him with his resiliency towards physical abuse (good point, we were robbed of more Smokescreen-centric fight scenes.)
Thank you!
So, the big thing with Riptide and Drift is that, not only were Smokescreen and Chromia the products of an inter-class relationship on Cybertron, Riptide himself is a hybrid result of a boatformer mom and a father who turned into a semi. So, because of these mixed genetics in Riptide, he was born sturdier, stronger, and less susceptible to disease. And since Smokescreen and Chromia were also born of another mixed union, they got all that from Riptide plus some. So, unlike most Mithrilians/even Team Prime (who were almost all born of families from the "same breed" if you will, on Cybertron in my AU), Smokescreen and Chromia inherited stronger genes that have given them greater strength, armor/plating, endurance, and immunity to disease that meant they were tougher than most of their contemporaries in the Mithril Sea (now that you mention it, a higher pain tolerance is likely inherited from Riptide, Drift, or both. Drift herself was unusually healthy for a v-mode femme, so there's some latent genetics on her side of the family that got passed on, too.)
Basically, while you can more easily see the influence of Riptide's genetics in Chromia, Smokescreen's paternal heritage is more subtle and gives him the look of someone who'd break easily but doesn't.
Yep. In the Mithril Sea, the physical traits and healthier genes they had were refined and strengthened by years of training for combat plus constant endurance tests as they outraced/bested the more unsavory members of their home. Combine that with each one of them getting "formal" training - Chromia from Prowl in Spec-Ops, and Smokescreen from Rocket Plume in the Elite Guard - means neither one of them goes down easy, if at all.
(Smokescreen's definitely not immune to attacks. You just gotta be craftier than him or Chromia to get the drop on either of them.)
It's hard not to talk about this without making Ultra Magnus seem weak by comparison. He's a tougher looking fella than Smokescreen, but the fact that he got trampled by a literal dragon Predacon while Smokescreen fared better against an eagle-bear hybrid....I don't care that they're smaller than Predaking, one or both should have suffered worse than what they did, in my humble opinion. And if nothing else, Smokescreen's future as a Prime likely means that he's tougher than Magnus.
Hahaha, yep! That's exactly why Smokescreen's as tough as he is. Just think, too: Chromia inherited the same as him, so despite not being "Prime material", she's tough as nails and will keep on chugging just like Smokescreen will.
Smokescreen's something else, and Chromia couldn't be prouder. Nor could we!
This was fun, Jazzi. And it didn't feel like it went into tinfoil hat territory - if anything, it all made sense!
You're welcome, Jazzi, and let me know if I missed anything!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year @aaaaawolfquarters! I enjoyed writing this fic for you, and wrote a quarter of it on the way home from TFCon because I was that excited. I love writing TFP Ratchet, and I don’t get that many excuses anymore. <3
@secretsolenoid-revived
The forest spun.
Each heartbeat thudded like a war drum in his ears. His body refused to shift, it wouldn’t shift. The poison was working too well, knotting his blood, dragging him down into a half-wolf, half-dead nightmare.
This was how it ended. Alone. Drunk on pain. Hunted. Too slow to kill the ones who had slipped the needle into his back. Too proud to call for help. Typical.
He’d closed his eyes expecting darkness. Instead, a figure burned into his vision like fire against snow.
Red hair, slightly curled and shoulder length. Bright as the setting sun. A face pale and severe, with eyes like rusted iron catching the moonlight. Kneeling over him.
A spirit. Surely. A keeper of the dead. His time had come.
“Spirit, I'm ready.. now,” he whispered, throat raw.
The figure snorted. “I’m not here to take you. Hold still.”
Then pain exploded across his senses. And cool fingers against his chest. Something bitter forced past his lips.
He choked.
And then, breath. His lungs opened. The fire in his veins dulled.
“You’re not..” he croaked. “You’re not death?”
“No.” A voice full of annoyance and strange tenderness. “I’m a medic. Ratchet. Try not to die.”
Deadlock blinked up at him.
He wasn’t glowing anymore. Or maybe he never was.
Just a young man. Tired. Sharp-edged. Pale bruised hands smeared with dirt and tincture. His Jaw clenched, eyes tight as he worked in light too dim for human eyes.
Beautiful.
Still unreal.
“ I’ll live?” he asked, as his vision swam and colors blurred, the world taken over by fiery orange red.
Ratchet didn’t look up from grinding herbs with his knife handle. “If you stop talking and let me finish.”
