Favourite Interview or Photoshoot: ‘Convention Tom’
Choosing your favourite Hiddles Interview is virtually impossible for a lot of fans. There are just SO many to choose from. This is a man who somehow manages to recount the funniest of stories, whilst simultaneously endearing us with the sweetest tributes to his fellow cast and crew members. He’s unabashedly humble, fiercely intelligent and insightful. He’s passionate, eloquent and erudite. And he’s not afraid to give us a full answer, however long that might take. There’s no lip service here. He doesn’t say anything that he hasn’t thought through or doesn’t mean. He doesn’t say what he thinks we want to hear. He says what he believes in. Yes, he has a ‘script’ for promotional interviews, so you’ll often hear the same phrases repeated throughout a press tour, but if an interviewer or audience member manages to think outside the box and asks him a question that allows him to talk about something he’s passionate about? Well, that’s when we get pure Hiddleston gold. And it is glorious!
So. Which to choose? This year I decided to choose ‘Convention Tom’ as a whole. He seems to be at his most relaxed and teasing in these interviews. Maybe it’s the adrenaline. Maybe it’s because he’s usually promoting work he’s extremely passionate about. Maybe it’s simply because he’s able to engage with fans. Whatever it is, I always look forward to watching them and hearing what he has to say.
