Kunjungan di Bagan pada Oktober kemarin ternyata bertepatan dengan perayaan hari raya Thadingyut, yaitu "Lighting Festival of Myanmar." Hari raya kedua terbesar setelah Thingyan Festival "New Year Water Festival" membuat kota Bagan begitu pekat bau hio dan ramai orang hilir mudik untuk berdoa di kuil.
Rasanya campur aduk seperti Imlek dan Idul Fitri. Semua orang menyalakan lilin, pelita, atau lampu warna warni untuk menunjukkan rasa syukur pada Budha yang sudah turun ke dunia. Momen ini dimanfaatkan orang untuk saling memaafkan, memberi makan hewan-hewan liar, saling berbagi masakan dengan tetangga serta biksu, dan saling mendoakan untuk kemudian diberi angpao.
