Alice in Borderland

Crazy new show I found on Netflix. It’s based on a manga, which I have not read.

So the story goes, Arisu Ryohei and his friends Daikichi Karube and Chota Segawa are hanging out, doing typical young people things. They get into a spot of trouble and hide out in a closet to escape the notice of a local police officer. Mere moments pass but when they leave the closet, they find Tokyo near completely deserted and most electronic equipment non-functional.

Soon enough they and a handful of other remaining people throughout the city discover a nasty set of rules to the new world.

Your time is limited. Play the games to extend your “visa” in the Borderland or get killed via death laser satellites. Once you start a game you can’t leave it without being death lasered.

What are these games? Oh, they’re just nightmare scenarios that usually end in one or more people dying horribly.

The Spade games involve some physical activity or other. Those who lack physical ability tend to die horribly.

The Club games involve teamwork and working together so that everyone makes it out alive. Those who don’t work together tend to die horribly.

The Diamond games involve putting your brain to the test. Those who lack thinky smarts tend to die horribly.

The Heart games are the worst of all, as they entail screwing with players’ emotions and causing them to make mistakes, resulting in (you guessed it) people dying horribly.

Can Arisu find out what the Borderland is all about and find a way home?!

It’s kind of a fucked up show, but it’s hella interesting. I look forward to season 2.
