your post about riley hcs is so true. sometimes i dream up fics where i need a character who is a past lover of the toxic or at least douchey variety and i need them to be significant and since riley is the most significant relationship we know of sams in canon he would be an obvious choice but i just cannot bring myself to make their love anything but pure lol like idk if theyd still be together after all these years had he lived but for me it's set that theirs was a healthy relationship
(Ask in relation to [THIS] post.)
You get it! This is exactly what I was talking about. I just don’t want to think about their relationship being bad or about Riley being an awful person. Maybe it’s because Sam was talking about him pretty fondly even after all this time or because in most fics he is described as someone nice, so I just internalized this interpretation of him... It’s hard to tell, but at this point it just doesn’t make sense to me when he and Sam aren’t in love until Riley’s last breath.
Technically, everyone can say anything about them and no one’s version would be incorrect given the lack of information (I do have some actual proof that they were at least good friends in canon, but it’s not the time for an essay). I won’t stop people from writing him as an asshole or some boring, irrelevant guy. It’s just pretty hard for me to imagine a reality where it’s the case. It’s weirdly upsetting to see Riley being presented as a rather bad person when I know how much he meant to Sam.
(Also... if people don’t want to make OCs for Sam’s mean ex, John Walker is right there xD And I think a lot of writers also used Rumlow in this role in the past. Rhodey could also work as Sam’s past love interest, if we’re going for a relationship that ended badly – see: “Civil War” – but the person he was with wasn’t bad themselves.)

I’m from Georgia, and I was trying to come up with something to listen to while getting ready for a Falcons game, so I made a playlist of musicians from Georgia. Listen while getting ready to watch/go see a Georgia team. Listen to while visiting Georgia in the future, or just listen for fun.
