There are some pieces of writing advice that I heard again and again back in my undergrad that honestly seem about seven types of stupid.

Like: write what you know.

You think I personally know what it's like to be a superhero (Barry Allen, Peter Parker)? To be the kind of person whose actions have an impact on millions, if not more? You think I personally know what it's like to be a literal god (Merlin, Hjalti)? To have more power than everyone you interact with on a daily basis and still pretend to be somewhat like them? You think I personally know what it's like to be in the military (Evan, Sam)? To have every part of your life controlled in the name of defending a country that would let you die without batting an eye?

Please. I've never even been in a relationship before, and that sure as shit hasn't stopped me from writing people falling in love again and again and again.

Write what you enjoy. Write what you're willing to research. Write for the sake of writing. You don't have to have experienced something to depict it in fiction.

And even more: when they tell you "write even when you're bad"?

Do people understand that that's the peak point of what the author's been able to? Write what you think is worth writing and sharing. There's no bad writing but opinions in what someone thinks is bad of what the author thought was their best. So be kind.

sharing your writing is hard. and sometimes it’s thankless. sometimes it’s such a negative experience that I wonder how anyone does it at all. but you are needed; you are wanted. whether or not we properly acknowledge it, you are a vital part of fandom culture. thanks for sharing.

9 years ago on this day H.R. Wells died a hero...

At least in that CW Flash AU. I know he's alive and kicking in my canon headspace. Readying himself for a vacation to St. Martin's with Team Flash in an upcoming fic I'm currently sitting at.
