I think the magicians apprentice/ the witchs familiar might be the only dw story since genesis of the daleks to nail the whole deal of davros' character. There's a scientist, the most brilliant mind of his world, and he was born during a thousand year war. The war has gone on for so long that both sides are gradually regressing in technological advancement, but he decides that he should hasten the evolution of his people into a new and improved creature. He wipes out his own people so that the ultimate life form can survive. He doesn't really believe in advancement, culture, or evolution: he believes in survival, so the perfect creature can only survive through aggression, dominance, and ethnic cleansing. Compassion and mercy are not essential to survival, so they must be cut out. He uses the Doctor's own compassion to hurt him, torturing and killing his friends, just to force him into submission and force him to admit that his vision of the universe is the right one.
The Magician's Apprentice
My arcana mc/sona, Ruine Cetrulo
I am still working on her in the sense of background but if there are any arcana roleplayers or groups who would like to come along for that ride pleeeeeeease lmk
Reblog/Like if The Magician's Apprentice is your favourite story
I've seen some people talking lately about how fast clara goes from hating missy to working with her and it honestly never even occured to me that anyone would have a problem with that because its always been something i absolutely loved
Not only does it somewhat reflect on Clara's character and her longstanding ability to look past morally terrible acts, but its a really neat parallel to Missy and the doctor's relationship, except with their own personal twist. Because although they do the same back and forth 'enemies to allies to enemies' thing, its always clear that Missy holds more power (clara is the witch's familiar)
i finished reading the magicians apprentice it was Good. a little disturbing in a good way. im now confident that taz likes to reuse themes and concepts across things shes written - both floralinda and the magicians apprentice have details and character themes that show up across tlt
Davros and Missy finally meet! It's a huge moment in Doctor Who history, and we're discussing it on this week's episode.
Also, Missy has a daughter? There's a lot of lore in this episode...

I am a HUGE short story fan, and a short horror writer, and let me tell you TAMSYN MUIR IS A GENIUS! She is listed on joint first of my favourite short fiction writers alongside Bora Chung and Angela Carter. Her writing isn’t fast paced, its still very similar to that of the Locked Tomb in that it feels domestic sort of? Like you’re being told the story rather than reading it?
Anyway you need to read my favourite two:
Chew - (cw) SA, cannibalism sort of, WWII aftermath, horror
The Magician’s Apprentice - (cw) cannibalism, horror
