Married Hollanov Headcanons (if you aren’t familiar w The Long Game I’m potentially spoiling stuff)
- neither of them would not want that lazy ass idgaf wedding what the actual fuck was that??
- Ilya would write his vows in Russian to profess his love as clearly and openly as possible, translating in English (best he can) for Shane afterwards
- Shane wanted to share his vows first but Ilya said no cuz if he did he would be too emotional to get through his and then pull himself together enough for the backyard ceremony
-Shane would try to surprise him with Russian vows and much of it wouldn’t make sense since at this point his Russian lessons are still very basic. Ilya absolutely adores this even when Shane switches to full English so he too can be as clear as possible in this moment
- they both blubber through the vows (phat messy tears trailing down the chin) but they’re also laughing and smiling. it’s a cathartic happy cry sesh before they show all their closest peers and family (who could attend) that their love is vibrant and real. And when they do get to the public ceremony they tear up anyways but not as much.
- Shane would want them to share their vows privately and do a “first look” (aka the married couple have a secluded moment to see each other before everyone else) and then do brief vows for the public ceremony. If people were there it would just be his parents crying quietly in the back and sneaking pictures for them
- the wedding WOULD be at the cottage on the dock with all of the candles by the water and the fairy lights strung around
- they def have the fairy lights strung around the backyard
- both Shane and Ilya do a mother-son dance with Yuna
- they do some sort of dedication to Ilyas mom. When my sister got married she had a dedication table with a picture of our sister and some candles, I picture something similar with Irina
- I don’t know what the wedding song is but for the love of fucking god it’s not diamonds by Rihanna. I like this song and the idea that if they played anything Ilya wouldn’t care as long as he’s swaying to the music with Shane but I still don’t think this song is it. Sue me.
- they would maybe do a photoshoot as a powerhouse athletic couple later down the line but for the wedding, professional pictures are pretty minimal; they want the photos from the wedding to be from the perspective of the guests since this is one of the first times at a large scale that they’re able to be public with their love for each other and let other people share that with them. it’s why they have disposable cameras for every couple/group and their wedding album is grouped by the perspective of the guests. Eg page 1-3 pictures from the perspective of David and Yuna, and it’s the pictures Yuna snuck from their private vow recital with Shane wiping ilyas tears, a candid picture of David and Ilya doing shots of Ilyas favourite most expensive vodka, a sneaky picture of Shane in the mirror reciting his vows. The last page is just all the pictures people took of their dog Anya. Anya with the kids, Anya sneaking a donut, Anya being an icon (most unproblematic character ever).
- I don’t recall if the book mentions Ilya having any Boston players as guest like how Shane had Hayden and a few ppl, but he def would’ve had Cliff Marlo (I’m blanking on the proper spelling of his name) and his wife in attendance
- Rose makes Ilya dance w him
- Sveta DRAGS Shane to the dance floor to grill him down (lovingly)
- they def do some sort of Russian wedding tradition. Which one? Could not tell you, I don’t know them, but it sets a precedent that Shane wants to bring Ilyas culture to him and their home at every opportunity
- After the guests are gone and the most basic round of clean up is done, Ilya takes a moment to sit on the dock by himself and talk to his mom about the day before Shane joins with a blanket and tea (Anya trotting behind, surely tired after all the people she’s been around and equally happy for this quiet moment)
- instead of gifts they ask guests to either donate to the charity or they pick a queer charity and have ppl submit donations to them instead
- I think their tuxes are a mix and match style of what they wore for the award ceremony presentation and the irl hudcon photoshoot for GQ
- they don’t plan for speeches, they don’t even know HOW or WHO got a microphone, but at some point it gets passed around and there’s a lot of sappy tears and laughs being shared as people tell stories about them, marriage advice, etc
- Ilya knows Shane feels shy about all the attention with first dance together (everyone staring at them silently in this intimate moment); he’s not a dancer but Ilya has had to learn a few basics considering all the galas and stuff back in Moscow. So Ilya tells everyone that they want to share their first dance with the crowd and have anyone in attendance with someone they love to dance with along side them. They don’t want their first show of love (besides the vows) to be a spectacle but instead a moment that connects them all. So now they’re in a sea of all their friends and family swaying to the music. Hayden and Jackie are crying as they dance nearby. David and Yuna are crying for like the 10th time that day.
- Fabian sings their first dance song what the fuck why didn’t he do that? He sings a cover of Diamonds live and it’s 1000 times better than hearing diamonds come on a Bluetooth speaker after a fucking Spotify ad like come on now.
- when they do the official vows they let the Pike children say the final lines in the officiants script OR introduce them before the ceremony, so they can be married by them a second time in a way and have them feel included.
- Miles is there as a companion to Rose and he tells Shane (jokingly) that it should’ve been them at the alter
