A Late “Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day” Sterek Rec List
Okay, so, I was aware of the Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day, and really excited for it! Except I thought it would be today and not on Friday August 21, which means I totally missed it. I also took way too long to start writing this post and then way longer to finish it.
But, I decided to share a list of some of my favorite Sterek fanfictions anyway, along with special messages to their authors, as well as to other authors whom I also appreciate and to the staff of fic rec blogs. Reading Sterek fiction it’s pretty much what gets me through the day, and I wanted to declare how absolutely incredible all the authors on this fandom are! Here it goes:

“Today is Scott's first day of kindergarten and Derek is terrified.”
I’m pretty sure this was the first Sterek fic I read, or at least it was the first one that really got to me. To this day, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read it. It’s a beautifully builden AU in which Derek has two kids, Scott and Jackson, and Stiles is a kindergarten teacher at the boys’ school. I love the little details and paralells with the canon from the show, like Derek working with wolves and how Stiles calls him ‘Sourpatch.’ The whole thing is glorious and I literally have no words for how much I love this story, reading it always makes me feel good.
· Fly a Little Faster by mirrorkill | 32052 words | Teen And Up Audiences
Everyone knows when you go back in time, you shouldn't step on an ant, just in case you accidentally kill your own grandparent or something. But what happens when you go back in time and, uh, accidentally interrupt the one event that apparently made the Grumpiest Alpha in Town into a ball of mindless manpain?
Well, if Marty McFly can do it, so can Stiles Stilinski. All he has to do is get Derek and Paige to fall in love before he gets pulled back to his own time. And before he makes anything worse. That's easy as pie, right? Right?
Oh my God, this fic. I’m obsessed with it, and I’ve read it countless times too. The ‘Visionary’ episode is one of my favorites, and everything in this story fits so right with the canon from the show, it’s amazingly well-written. I honestly confuse the actual events with what I read that happens here! The characters’ lines and actions are absolutely on point, and seeing High School!Derek from a very in-character Stiles POV is just great. Basically everytime I read this fic, I wish I could go back in time to read it for the very first time again, just to live the experience that it was discovering this story.
· Fireman Derek's Crazy Pie [Cheeseburger Baby] by owlpostagain | 17698 words | Teen And Up Audiences
“He can't blame me for the fact that I live in a building full of people united in the singular effort to ogle Hot Fireman as often as humanly possible."
Laura laughs, loud and echoing in the empty restaurant.
"Hot firemen can make a girl do crazy things," she agrees, nodding towards her brother's name on the menu. "Derek won't let me date anyone from his company, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the eye candy."
"Send them my way," Stiles suggests, finally loading up a forkful of pie. "Apparently I'm incompetent enough that I need to be babysat at all times, because it would be cheaper than dispatching a truck every time I try to use a kitchen appliance."
This fic is incredible! Laura’s character is an evil genius just how I dig it, and she’s written in a way that you can picture just perfectly. As for both Stiles and Derek, they are so oblivious it kinda makes me want to slap them a little, but literally every single interaction between them on this story are amazing. Also I’m a sucker for Fireman!Derek, and this one is definetely my favorite of that trope.
· Night Watch by bleep0bleep | 1743 words | Teen And Up Audiences
Stiles finds out via camera footage that an unlikely person has been watching over him.
Ooooh, I love this one! The ever amazing blee0bleep’s – one of my favorite authors of the fandom – take on the events after the ‘The Fox And The Wolf’ episode of Season 3B, in which the Sheriff installs security cameras on Stiles’ bedroom. I love fics when the Sheriff finds out about Stiles & Derek’s relationship, and I love it even more when that happens before Stiles and Derek figure out their relationship, and this one is written on a very accurate POV of our dear Papa Stilinski. The final scene is just priceless. My only complaint about this story is that I wish there was more!
· Cornerstone by Vendelin | 83738 words (6/6 chapters) | Explicit
Suffering from PTSD, ex-Marine Derek Hale moves back to Beacon Hills to open a bookshop and find a calmer life. That’s where he meets Stiles, completely by accident. Stiles is talkative, charming and curious. Somehow, despite the fact that he’s blind, he’s able to read Derek like no one else.
This story is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes just to think about it, just as I read it for the first time. It’s very well-written, you can feel how fragile Derek and Stiles are, each in their own ways by the careful words you read. To me, it is truly a work of art in the form of a fanfiction. And speaking of art, kudos also to the awesome artists that drew lovely arts to go with the story! The ones for the scene when Stiles touches Derek’s face are my favorite because that is my favorite scene from the fic, but every single word and every single art is absolutely incredible. I love it with all my heart.
· Love Don’t Die by Finduilas | 33549 words | Explicit
Derek is nine years old when he discovers the gift that he's been given. A gift that he didn't necessarily ask for. Derek can touch dead things and bring them back to life. But not without consequences and conditions, many of which are heartbreaking.
Many years later, his path crosses that of his childhood sweetheart, Stiles, in very unfortunate circumstances. But now, Derek's gift gives him the power to save Stiles. And damned be the consequences.
This fanfic is incredible. It’s a lovely sort of Pushing Daisies AU with a few twists. I love how Derek and Stiles are childhood friends/sweethearts and when they meet again years later the connection is still there, and even stronger. The bit with the wrap was so cute I basically became a puddle on the floor. And so was the moment at the Sheriff’s door until it wasn’t, and I cried from laughing. All in all, a very sweet story – pun intended!
· Gravity’s Got Nothing On You by zosofi | 83980 words (11/11 chapters) | Explicit
“Three weeks,” Derek says.
“Still don’t want to,” Stiles says.
“I’ll pay you,” Derek says, and that… that has Stiles interested. Alf’s Antique’s may be a great job, but it’s not a high-paying job, and half of Stiles’s tuition is coming from financial aid, so…
“How much,” Stiles asks, “are we talking here? Because I know your family, dude. And it’ll be kind of awkward after.“
“My family thinks you’re some sort of fucking gift to the world,” Derek seethes, like he’s jealous, “they’ll probably be pissed at me when we break it off, so don’t worry about that. Five hundred bucks.”
“A thousand,” Stiles says, because screw ethics. Also, the Hale family is loaded. Derek can deal.
I love Fake Relationship AUs, and this is one of the most awesome I’ve ever read. It has a really interesting plot too, with the statues and stuff. It’s very funny, sometimes very angsty, but overall a great and entertaining reading! I just left a Kudo because I fail at life. But, I’ve already started to read it again. I wish I could leave like, a million Kudos just myself.
· The Proposal by Firenation | 17980 words (8/8 chapters) | Explicit
Stiles Stilinski is the long-suffering assistant of Derek Hale, editor extraordinaire. Also jackass extraordinaire.
The Proposal AU where Stiles has to get engaged to his terrifying boss Derek in order to prevent him being deported. And somehow has to persuade his family that they're really in a relationship (stop laughing, Scott). Difficult doesn't even cover it.
Still on the Fake Relationship trope, this is a very awesome AU! As the summary above says, it’s a version of the movie in which Sandra Bullock, the awful Canadian boss of Ryan Reynolds, bribes him to get married to her so she won’t be deported. While in his little hometown to convince his family of their love, they actually fall in love for real. First of all I’ve watched this movie like, 30 times, I love it so much. And since I found this fic I can’t not think about Sterek whenever I watch it. It just fits so well! Reading the story you can easily see Derek all rude and stuff but hiding a pretty soft interior, and Stiles as the poor assistant who just wanted to help out – in no way related to Derek being really attractive. And there’s also the other characters that work so well as Stiles’ little but loving family. Anyway, I love this piece!

Ah, yes. Stupid boys doing stupid things until they realize they’re actually stupidly in love with each other. Sign me the fuck up. This story is hilarious with a build-up that is very frustrating, but in a good way. The smut is fucking amazing, oh my God. But that’s not all, because the story gets you going through Stiles’ head, so it makes you want to claw your own face off sometimes, and then wait for this big epic event before it ends. And it does not disappoint in that department. Or any, for all that it matters. This fic is a fandom treasure, honestly.
· You Can’t Dodge Stiles Stilinski by stilinskisparkles | 27250 words | Explicit
“And this is it?” he points at the first girl. “I saw you in first period, you barely bothered to catch any of the balls you were tossed. I’m pretty sure you spent more time on your cell.”
The girl rolls her eyes, and looks completely unashamed of the fact she had her phone out in class. Derek knows Finstock would have stepped on it.
“And you,” he points at the second girl, taller and with eyes that meet Derek’s coolly. “You can’t throw anything worth half a damn. And what are you,” he points at the boy, trying not to look him in the eye, and failing. “A hundred and fifty pounds wet?”
The boy smirks at him, and Derek looks resolutely away. He’s now desperately trying not to picture him wet.
"I can't work with this."
A Teacher!Derek & Student!Stiles awesome story! Stiles and Derek perfectly in-character, and there is so much sass from Erica, Laura, and Cora. Seriously, so much glorious sass. And Stiles is such a flirty little tease. It’s amazing. And since is in third person we get to experience being in both heads and reading about both reactions, which is always great. Amy Rose is an author that I hold dear, because I basically love everything she writes.
· There Is A Brotherhood by minusoneday | 21004 words (3/3 chapters) | Explicit – Part 1 of The Noble Tie That Binds series.
So far, college has taught Stiles three things:
1) Eight am classes are cruel and unusual and should be avoided at all costs, even if it means having to enroll in something truly hideous instead, like Econ 101.
2) Dorm security is just as tight as Stiles’ orientation leader had promised it would be, and the dude guarding Scott’s dorm in particular does not respond well to bribes.
3) Mrs. McCall clearly had no clue what she was talking about when she’d insisted that Scott and Stiles needed to branch out and room with strangers, so it’s all her fault that Scott ended up with a total dick of a roommate and Stiles got stuck all the way across campus with some guy who has a girlfriend two towns over and is thus never around.
Or, the one where pledge brothers Stiles and Scott start a prank war with Derek Hale's fraternity.
I love this story, it is seriously incredible. Not only a College Fratboys!Sterek AU, but college fratboys Sterek from different sororities who start pulling pranks on each other. It’sjust so very Stiles-and-Derek, like their usual verbal teasing and banter we love and see on the show, but here in the form of pranks. Oh, and The Part 2 is a version from Derek’s POV, which is just as awesome!
· can’t be hateful, gotta be grateful by HalfFizzbin | 6260 words | Teen And Up Audiences
“Be cool, Dad, we’ve decided to con Grandma."
(Or, the one where the Stilinski men drag Derek to Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma’s and she gets the right wrong idea.)
Oooh, I love this fic! It’s so sweet! I’m obsessed with stories where Grandma Stilinski is involved because we get to see Stiles and most of the times the Sheriff interact with another member of their family. So when the author writes her in a matchmaker way and the story also includes Derek being all shy and respectful I basically melt.
And since we’re talking HalfFizzbin’s awesome works, seems to me is chemistry (4153 words, Teen And Up Audiences) is another favorite. It’s a High School!AU in which Nerd!Derek has a crush on Jock!Stiles, and then Mr. Harris pairs them up for a Chemistry project. It’s on Derek’s POV and that’s amazing on its own because have I mentioned he’s a giant nerd with a giant crush on Stiles? Serisouly, I can’t deal with how adorable this story is. I should probably mention it’s also part of a series with 02 other fics that you should read too. Man, I’m sorry for my zero skills of recommending fics. But they’re all awesome.
· One Hale Of A Sandwhich by whathehale | 10090 words | Teen And Up Audiences
Stiles in bed isn’t really something Derek should be thinking about.
Ever.
Because the person who normally picks Lily up from school? Is Scott.
Lily’s other parent. And Stiles’s partner.
Not to mention the entire source of Derek’s current misery.

Do I need to say more with that Summary? I’ve read it a lot of times, I never get tired of it! This story is priceless. Imagining Derek being so confused is hilarious. Stiles and Lily’s relationship is adorable. It also features Scira! It’s all so fluffy and cute, really.

Stiles is pretty sure his mouth is hanging open right now and that his eyes are wide with shock, because holy fuck, he thinks he knows why his students transferred. Hell, if he was still an undergrad, he probably would have transferred, too.
(Or: In which Stiles is a Biology professor and Derek thinks he's a student.)
Ah, this fic is awesome! Stiles is really flirty and forward, but Derek keeps shutting him down because he thinks he’s a student since they meet on his class. They never quite aknowledge this little misunderstanding until the end but in no way it gets boring or repetitive, it just makes you crave for when they sort things out. KuriKuri is also one of my favorites from the fandom. I love a bunch of fics from her, buuut All You Ever Needed To Know About Knotting – in which Stiles writes an advice column about knotting that Derek starts to read without knowing his neighbor writes – is a specially incredible one also worth to check out immedially if you haven’t! Oh, it has 4781 words and is rated Explicit. Again, I’m new at this.
· stop, drop, and roll by thepsychicclam | 12237 words | Mature
Stiles knows he's in trouble when he invites the Beacon Hills Fire Department into his third grade classroom and he can't stop staring at a certain scruffy fireman. But after the third graders take a field trip to the fire station and participate in the fire department's holiday canned food drive, Stiles can't ignore his crush any longer.
This fic is insanely good! I have lost count of how many times I read it. It’s amazingly well-written, the build-up of the relationship is very careful. I read it mostly with a giant smile on my face because that’s how happy Teacher!Stiles combined with kids makes me. But then the details, and Firefighter!Derek’s backstory, made the end so delicate and beautiful it makes me want to cry. It’s a wonderful piece. thepsychicclam is another personal favorite, I basically worship her writing.

Dear Sterek Authors, I thank you so much for everything you’ve ever been through while writing something for our fandom. I know I referred to a few as my personal favorites but honestly, just reading Sterek fiction is one of my favorite things to do, so every single person whose work I’ve come across makes me happy and has a special place in my heart. I wish I could do nothing but sit and read your work, and the works of the ones in the fandom I haven’t had the opportunity to do so since there are so many. I appreciate your work so much, but I’ve never been vocal enough about it, and I’m sorry for that. I’ve been trying to comment and kudo on AO3 lately, to show my support. Since sometimes I forget about it and I missed the Appreciation Day, I thought it could be a valid excuse to thank everyone with this post. So, thank you all for sharing your works. I hope inspiration keeps striking you, and you keep on writing amazing stories and making this fandom happier, making it a safe place for me whenever I need to lose myself and forget the world simply by reading your words. Sigh. This one is always so complicated. Basically I'm from New England. I've moved a lot and my parents have a condo and a house in two different states and then I go to college in a different city and it's all very complicated. But I generally live in New England.

I would say it is a little bigger than a crush. More like full-on in love with someone at the moment. Like I can picture myself spending the rest of my life happily by his side. I think by the time you can say that it's maybe more than a crush. Or you have a really great imagination.

Purple. I adore that color in all it's mesmerising shades.
