we just wanna ramble about this in your asks.
for the most part, we kinda ignore that omegaverse/misceverse exclusivity on terms like scents, subvocals, etc??? let me explain
an overwhelming majority of us are nonhumans. from what we remember, we only have one human headmate. even if we aren't directly misceverse, a lot of us exhibit animalistic traits and feel comforted by terms like flavored, scent, subvocal, etc etc.
we understand who these were intended for, but we got a little peeved at the wording on the subvocal coining post. because these have more use than just misceverse! some of us just like having labels to our nonhuman traits!!!!
thank u for listening radio o7
Thanks for sharing experiences!! We love hearing about stuff like this.
We have a lot of thoughts on term exclusivity that I frankly don't have the energy to really get into right now, but in my personal opinion anyway (and I think this is widespread enough across our fronters that I don't need to add the disclaimer that I'm just one alter of many) I think this is a case where it's fine to ignore the term exclusivity.
Far as we know, subvocals in a misceverse context were taken from omegaverse fanfiction; they aren't present in all omegaverse content, but they are common across it! So I can completely understand why subvocals, once introduced to misceverse as well as the wider LIOMOGAI communities, were worded in a way that, you know, tied them to misceverse. A lot of the times when people coin sub-terms, we've noticed descriptions being just directly copy-pasted from the umbrella term's wording. This is visible through things like individual genders being described as gender systems in their descriptions, or coiners coining terms that they later say they don't entirely understand, and they were simply following the wording of a template or requester. My point in saying this is that I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case for a good number of if not the majority of scent and subvocal flag posts, with the specification of it being misceverse coming from that act of mimicking or copying posts of the same sort of term, without thought being put into how else they may be applicable. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, to be clear!! We& admittedly have a tendency to be a bit pretentious and stuck-up about MOGAI sorts of things (that good ol' autinarc experience haha), but when our recognizably disordered emotions are removed from the conversation we very much are of the opinion that coiners and flagmakers don't need to simultaneously be philosophers. Forgive my tangent there haha.
TL;DR: I think the reason most of the scent and subvocal posts have misceverse wording is because most of the scent and subvocal posts have misceverse wording. Using other posts for inspiration and templates and putting descriptions together. It's my opinion that you're fine to apply these to yourselves in a non-misceverse context.
There could be a longer conversation and/or ramble about sort of... how closely one needs to align with a term for it to be considered an acceptable application to them in MOGAI spaces, and how this appears to differ between broader terms like lesbian and more specific terms like machigirlkoria, and we've spoken briefly about this before with Meliad in private (while I'm having the thought, if you reference our archive but are unaware of our dear @io-archival, I highly recommend you check out the wonderful work xe's doing!), but I've already given what I'm sure is a longer response to this than you expected, and also it would probably end up even more tangential. I also still need to get the activity page done for today, so. Shrugs.
In the event you're interested as well, there's the term vuneroma (https://radiomogai.tumblr.com/post/770861644405489664) which is non-misceverse and may be of use to you! Not to say you need to switch to it, rather to say that you've got options!
