Sierra named herself after the Sierra Nevadas but she picked the last name Matsui because the only thing she knows about her genetic origin is that she’s Japanese. She doesn’t claim it in any way other than that (how can she, when she isn’t even a real person?). Family dynamics and traditions and cultures have always been things she’s never understood, no matter how much she’s tried to dive into the minds of others to make them make sense. One thing she hates is not understanding something, so she gave up on it—especially after Heartbreak. And then, boom, suddenly she’s meeting with HG and staring across the table at a woman who looks just like her. She doesn’t trust her at all, but her need to understand what it’s like to be a part of a family, with all the traditions and the stories, wins out in the end. And then Julia has to watch as the woman she loves falls in with the biggest target she’s been hunting down for years 👍
