The best part of “How Rory Thorne destroyed the multiverse” and the sequel, “How the Multiverse got its revenge”, is one, the occasional insistence that this is a historical chronicle, two, grytt, also jaed and thorsdottir, but also the fact that at no point in the books as far as I’m aware, do they ever actually explain the multiverse. They keep talking about it, but whenever they go somewhere it seems to be solidly in the same universe, and I don’t get it, but it’s funny.
I still think this would’ve made a cute relationship. It’s nothing serious like JamesXTorunn or FrancisXTorunn, but it’s more like a big sister and little bro type relationship. In this AU Pym has feelings for Torunn, tho obviously she doesn’t feel the same way and just sees him as a little brother. Yeah, I could imagine Torunn turning him down, I think Pym would be heartbroken once she said the words “Sorry Pym, you’re more like a brother to me”.
I added the bruises and scars in the second photo cause CONTINUITY!! Tho maybe I should’ve used her Asgardian robes in the second picture....
A/N: I was really hoping @loki-the-fox would do a Valentine’s Day Challenge because I had an idea going and look! It’s a Valentine’s Day Challenge! This is the 4th installment of the Princesses series (?) but can function as a stand alone. I’m not going to link the previous parts here because I get more traffic without links. But they can all be found in my masterlist.
Prompt: Who’s it from? Your secret admirer?
Pairings: Dad!Thor x Daughter
Summary: Someone has a crush on Thor’s daughter
Word Count: 2k
Warnings: Just cute fluff, over protective Thor and other Avengers
Coming home was always Thor’s favorite part of missions. He missed his wife, his kids, his simple domestic life. Getting home early always a treat. And this time was no exception.
It was just past three-thirty in the afternoon when he got home, a full eight hours ahead of schedule. He crept in as quietly as he could, finding his family gathered in the kitchen.
A chorus of cheers and yelling greeted his ears as his family rushed towards him. He smiled broadly, easily encompassing his wife, son, and daughter into his arms. “I missed you all so much!” He said, giving each family member a kiss. “I’m so happy to be back!”
“I missed you too, Dad!” His daughter said, clinging to his middle.
“We’re so glad you’re back.” His wife placed a sweet kiss to his cheek as she spoke.
His tiny two-year-old son simply jumped up and down at his legs yelling, “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!”
When he had his fill of their family hug, he released them. “I was just making some after school snacks,” his wife said. “I have some cut up apples with peanut butter if that’s alright. Or I can make you whatever you please. Sometime more filling.”
“This is fine, my queen.” He placed his hand on her waist and kissed her cheek again. “Stark fed us well.”
“I’ll slice up another one then,” she said, smiling. “Can you go through Lina’s backpack with her?”
“Of course!” Thor bellowed and joined his daughter at the kitchen table. The backpack in question was already sitting in the middle of the table. Lina was seated, pulling school books out of the pack. Thor sat down next to her. “What do we have?”
He took the stuff she handed him. “I have a worksheet to do for history. And I have two pages of math to do. Will you help me?” She looked up at him, pleadingly. He never did have the willpower to deny her. Her sweet blue eyes always melted his heart.
“Of course, my princess.” He started to sort the books while little Arik started to pull at his leg. Thor lifted his son up, placing him on his lap. “We’ll both help, right, little prince?” Smiling, Thor opened Lina’s folder, flipping through the papers to find her worksheet. “What’s this?” He pulled out a torn piece of paper, intricate creases showing that it was once folded in many ways. In the center of the paper was a note: I liked your hair ribbon. Pink is a good color.
His wife placed a plate of apples and peanut butter on the table next to them. Arik wasted no time in grabbing and apple and munching on it. “Oh, is that a note?” She asked, ruffling the little boy’s hair. “Who’s it from? Your secret admirer?”
“Yeah!” Lina said proudly, grabbing the letter from Thor. “Look at this one!”
Thor watched as Lina passed the note to her mother, utterly confused. “What? What secret admirer?”
“Olina’s been getting notes just about everyday this week. Someone in her class has a crush on her.”
“What?” Thor’s eyes were wide as disks, looking from his daughter to his wife. “No, absolutely not.”
Lina sighed, “It’s okay, Dad. Valentine’s Day is next week.”
“That doesn’t make it better!” Panic was starting to settle in. No, no way. Olina was only seven. There was no way in the nine realms that she had a secret admirer. She was far too young for crushes.
“I hope they’re from Tommy,” Lina said, grabbing an apple and coating it in peanut butter. “He’s the cutest.”
Thor clutched his chest, feeling like he might pass out. “It’s okay,” came his wife’s soothing voice. She placed her hand on his shoulder and kissed his cheek. “No need to worry. It’s just a school yard crush.”
No matter what his wife said, Thor couldn’t get past that his daughter had a secret admirer. The thought was in the back of his mind as he helped Lina with her homework, helped make dinner, and helped get the kids to bed. He didn’t say anything until he and his wife were preparing for their own slumber.
“I don’t like this,” he said, brushing his golden hair. “She’s far too young.”
“She’s seven, Thor.” His wife sounded tired and borderline annoyed. “That may be young for an Asgardian, but for a human that’s a perfectly normal age to have a crush.”
“She’s half Asgardian!” He countered.
His wife started laughing. “She’s also half human. So far, her aging is on par with humans. If that changes then I will fully support your opinion that she’s too little. Until she slows down, she’s allowed to think some boy in her class is cute.”
Thor continued to grumble and complain about it. Not pleased with how fast his little girl was growing up. Wasn’t it just yesterday she was swaddled tightly, nothing but a tiny face poking out of a blanket as he rocked her to sleep? He did not like this one bit.
“Now,” his wife came to him, wrapping her arms around his middle. His large frame prevented her hands from meeting. “You’ve been away for eight days. I’ve missed you. I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like to be with you.”
Putting the brush down, he smirked. He twisted around and easily lifted her off her feet. She squealed and giggled, grabbing onto his shoulders. He kissed her deeply yet quickly, just giving her a taste of what was to come. “Let me remind you, then.”
//
Thor volunteered to stay at home the next morning with Arik while his wife took Olina to school. He was formulating a plan on how to deal with this secret admirer and wanted his lovely wife out of the house to do so. Was it a bit sneaky? Sure, but he was just doing his duty as a father.
While Arik was content watching cartoons, Thor pulled out his phone and sent a group text:
Thor: We have a situation
Tony: Something wrong?
Clint: Is everything ok?
Steve: Is your family alright?
Bucky: I can be there in 20 minutes
Thor: Everyones fine. I just found out theres someone at school who was been sneaking Lina love notes.
Sam: Love notes??????
Tony: This is an emergency
Bucky: I’ll be there in 10
Steve: Whos the punk?
Thor: I dont know. Shes been coming home with secret notes everyday from someone. She doesnt know who its from
Tony: Give me the note. I’ll have the handwriting analyzed
Thor: That will take too long. I have another idea
//
Thor pushed open the door into the house after getting Lina from school. “Mom!” Lina yelled, “we’re back!”
“Remember what I said,” Thor whispered to her before her mother appeared. “Mummy doesn’t need to know.”
“Hello!” His wife walked in with a smile on her face. “How as school?”
“It was great! I got a hundred on the history worksheet Dad helped me with yesterday!” Lina said so proudly, making Thor feel great.
“That’s so wonderful!” Lina’s mother kissed the top of the little girl’s head. Something about her tone and behavior was off and he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. “Why don’t you go wash up and play with Arik for a little bit before snack and homework?”
With no other prompting, Lina raced out of the room, leaving him alone with his wife. Instantly, her posture changed. Her eyes hardened and her hands went right to hips like they do when she scolds the children.
“So, do you want to tell me?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said, his eyes skirting everywhere to avoid her harsh gaze. He clasped his hands behind his back. “Nope. No idea.” He swayed from foot to foot gently, trying to act natural.
“Really?” She whipped out her cell phone. “This is the text I got from Lina’s teacher. ‘I see Thor is back. He showed up to pick Lina up. He had the whole Avenger’s crew with him, all ready for battle. It seemed a bit odd but he had Lina’s pick up pass so we let her go. It was strange so I wanted to send you a text just to let you know.’”
He mentally cursed himself. He thought as long as he had the pass saying he was there to pick up Olina that everything would go smoothly.
“Not to mention,” his wife continued, her voice starting to rise. “The texts I was getting from some of the other parents. So, I’m going to ask again. Why were you, Anthony, Clinton, Steven, James, and Samuel all picking Olina up from school? All wearing your battle gear?”
She was addressing everyone by their full names. She was not happy.
“I can explain,” he started, trying to think of something that wouldn’t make his wife explode at him.
“If you’re about to tell me that you did that to try and intimidate whatever poor little boy that likes Lina you are sleeping on the couch for the next week.”
“Well-“
“Thor Odinson! I cannot believe you!” He was in deep trouble now. “She’s a child, Thor! It’s just a little crush! And then to get practically the whole team involved in this?”
“My darling,” he pleaded, rushing to her side. “The others…well they should know what’s going on in Olina’s life, right? They just wanted to help.”
“Uh, huh.” She walked away from him. “Is there a reason Natasha and Bruce weren’t there as well? Could it be because they’re the only rational ones out of the group? They would have told you just how stupid you were being?”
That was exactly why they were not part of his group chat, but he wasn’t about to admit that to her. “My queen. My beautiful beautiful queen. I just wanted to-“
“What? Intimidate a child?” When she said it like that, it did sound rather extreme. “Thor...” Her voice finally dropped. She just sounded tired now.
“I’m sorry.” He grabbed her hand, bringing it up to his mouth and kissing her palm. “I didn’t mean to make you so upset, my queen.” He kissed her palm again and she started to relax and melt. “Truly.” He pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her. “Just the thought of Olina growing up so quickly… I miss her being small.”
She responded by wrapping her own arms around his neck, kissing his cheek tenderly. “I know. I do too. I miss those days so much. But she’s growing up and we can’t stop that. She’s going to grow up and there’s going to be lots of boys and girls that have crushes on her. Same with Arik. That’s how life works.”
She had a point that he was reluctant to admit. Instead, he just rested his cheek against the top of her head. He loved his wife so much. He was so thankful to have her. She made him a better man, husband, father. “I don’t know what I would do without you, my queen,” he whispered to her. “You are right as always. I acted irrationally and I am sorry. But Lina did like being picked up by all of us. She was very happy and surprised.”
“Be that as it may, you still caused a scene. The whole lot of you did.” She pulled away to meet his eyes. “I know you all love her and are protective of her, but this is not the way to go about it. Promise me that if you’re concerned about something, you’ll come talk to me about it first before you assemble the Avengers?”
“I promise,” he said and kissed her. He enjoyed this soft, simple moment with her. Holding her hips and kissing her with all the love he could muster. What he wouldn’t do for her and his family.
She was the one to slowly pull away, her lips a bit rosy. She smiled, and gently traced her fingers around his cheek. “I love you. And you’re still sleeping on the couch.”
here they stand, watching the mortals scurry around and the two could not be more opposites. “how can you hate it here, tova? what makes you dislike midgard so much?” because, unlike laussa, tova wanted the godly powers and the throne. which is why laussa already told her father to give it to her instead of laussa. “it’s beautiful, even if they’re a doomed planet.”
With your hypnosis gone and your identity fully known, you and Steve reunite and pick you right where your left off. But with The Avengers disbanded and a new danger looming in the future, what’ll keep everything from falling apart?
Summary: Steve meets Odin, and you learn the real reason he exiled you. And the team has to make a quick detour to Scotland.
Warnings: Mentions of Thor Ragnarok, jealous Steve
The sea air filled your nose when your feet touched the gravel, that and the smell of wet grass relaxed you a bit. Steve and Nat walked with you along the empty shoreline, Sam stayed behind to guard the ship.
"Is it just me or does everything look... wet?" Nat asked
"It's rainy season." Steve chuckled, before turning to you "Any clue as to where he his?"
You took a deep breath and scanned the area, you eyes landing on a cliff not too far away. You could feel Odin's calming aura settled at the top "There."
"You sure?"
"Sixty percent." You matched forward, Nat joining alongside you, Steve trailing behind a few feet. The gravel crunched beneath your feet.
"Should we have gotten the climbing gear from the jet?" Nat asks Steve
"No, I can get you two up there." You answered before him
Nat smiled softly "Meeting the All Father, I feel like I should've worn a gown."
"He was wearing a cardigan sweater when I met him. You're fine." You chuckle before sneaking a glance back at Steve "How's he been? Honestly?"
"Steve's... He's been better. After the falling out with Tony he beat himself up pretty bad about it." She whispered to you "And then when he got the call the other day- When he didn't hear anything about Tony in the news he let it slide. I think a part of him was hoping that Tony called to make amends."
"No that was me, I found the phone he gave Tony."
"You were with Stark?" Steve spoke up "You know I can still hear you even if you whisper. How'd you end up with Tony for a month?"
Something about his tone felt off to you. Almost offended that you reached out to Tony before him.
"I found him at the compound. He was the only one who stayed in place." You added that last part under your breath but Steve still heard it
The three of you stood at the bottom of the cliff, it was at least a fifty foot drop, if the fall didn't kill you the rocks at the bottom would.
"How do you plan on getting us up there?" Nat squints at the top, the small amount of sunlight getting in her eyes
You twirl your hands around, blue smoke wrapped around Natasha's legs and torso and started to lift her to the top to the cliff.
"If you drop me I'll kill you."
"Relax I've done this plenty of times." You smile "Never this high though. Or with an actual person."
You heard Nat swear in Russian and giggled a bit.
"How's Tony doing?" Steve stood closer to you now
"He's doing good, he and Pepper are planning for their wedding even though they don't have a date. He took on a protege, I haven't met him yet."
"You know if I could've stayed, I would've."
"Yeah, I know. I'm not blaming you for protecting Bucky." You spoke to him but kept your eyes on Nat, she was nearing the top, reaching out for the edge
"What were you and Bucky talking about when you showed up? In the study."
Your concentration slipped slightly and so do Nat. "Hey, watch it!"
"Sorry!" You called back "Bucky was just catching me up on things. And I asked him if he remembered anything else from his time with Hydra."
"And?"
"He doesn't." You avoid casting your eyes down in shame, partly because you weren't a child even though Steve was treating you like one and you still had to keep an eye on Nat "It was just a question Steve, no need to get defensive."
"I'm not getting defensive."
'Will you two shut up.' Nat said over the comms when she got high up enough 'Before she flings me over the cliff.'
"Sorry."
"No need to apologize." Steve says to you
"I was talking to Nat."
The two of you were quiet until you had to lift him next. You were a bit rougher with him than Nat, not that he couldn't take it. Once he was perched on the cliff you flew up, landing gracefully on your toes next to him.
"You okay there Stevie?"
"Never better." He gives you a mischievous grin, his eyes flicker to your ass as you walked forward
Odin sat on a flat tree stump, facing away from you, Steve and Nat. He looked over the small town down at the bottom.
"Grandfather?"
He turned to you with a welcoming smile. "I'd wonder when you show. And you've brought companions."
"I hope you don't mind." You moved to kneel in front of him, Steve raised an eyebrow, confused "How are you?"
"Not dead, so all is well for the time being." He smiles and reaches out to hold your hands "My apologies for leaving so abruptly. Why are you kneeling? A Queen needn't bow."
"I'm not a Queen yet, Grandfather." You stood anyways
"Yet is the key word, Rayna."
You smiled. "I'd like you to meet my friends." You signaled for Steve and Natasha to come over "This is Natasha and Steve."
“Friend?” Steve raised an eyebrow at you
“You know what I mean.” you held his hand in yours
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Nat smiled
“Thank you for looking after my granddaughter, and occasionally my first born son.” Odin chuckled
"(Y/N) has certainly been a change of pace." Steve kissed the top of your head
You gave a small smile and moved to sit on the ground next to him. Steve, who didn't let go of your hand sat next to you and Nat stood off to the side. You look out over the lively but calm movement of the town. The fishermen were pulling in their latest catches of the day, a small trio of friends were sitting outside a small cafe, and watching children chasing behind a dog with an old boot in its mouth.
“It’s beautiful here.” you turned your head up towards Odin, taking in the smile on his face and the peace you felt radiating off him. Tears gathered in your eyes “Will this really be the last time I see you? I’ve only just met you- the real you- and I don’t think I’m ready to let that go.”
Odin gives you hand a tight squeeze “One can only hope the fates allow us more time.”
“Well maybe you can come back with me? Or I could stay here and look after you?”
“I wouldn’t wish to cause any more distress on your life than I already have.”
“How generous of you.” Steve said under his breath, you whipped your head around to gawk at him
“Really? Is now the best time to do this?”
Steve opened his mouth to speak again when Nat cut him off.
“Maybe we should go check on Sam, back at the jet.” she said pointedly, he didn’t argue as he followed behind her
You waited until they were both a good enough distance away before you started speaking again.
“I’m sorry for that.”
“I’m afraid he’s right, you’ve suffered because I could not get over my pride. Or my fear.”
“Fear of what?” he didn’t respond “Grandfather?”
“I feared your birth would bring about Ragnarok, the end of Asgard.”
“You shook your head in disbelief “Ragnarok? It’s a myth, legend, it’s a story parents tell their children.”
“Are gods not the same?” he sighed “Asgard was on the brink of war with the Giants and Surtr. And the winter to come was bound to be harsh, and the longest one we’d endure.”
“All the signs of Ragnarok, you thought I would cause it?”
“No, Hela. My first born, The Goddess of Death. She helped me conquer the nine realms and we ruled together until I realized she was becoming raged by power. I cast her away to Hel, but I fear once I am no longer here, she will be free.”
You remained unresponsive for a moment, the first bit of information still taking a minute to fully process.
“Then Heimdall foresaw your birth, The Goddess of Life. And the following morning your mother came to me, seeking a safe haven.” Odin looked down at his hands “I believed that if any two beings could bring about the end of Asgard it would be The Goddess of Life and Death. I took every precaution I could in order to prevent Ragnarok, but it is destined.”
“I- I don’t know which to address first.” you took a deep breath “Who else knows about Hela?”
“Neither your father or Loki know about her, I told Frigga about her. Gave me a bruise the size of an apple once I did. But no one else.”
You smiled at the thought of Frigga hitting Odin, possibly with a shoe or book. She must’ve been an amazing woman to have put up with Odin and all his misdoings over the years.
“I don’t want to destroy Asgard.”
“I know, my assumptions were wrong. The end of Asgard was never going to be at your hand.”
“I have to go back, I have to warn everyone.” You jumped up from the ground and started pacing “But Heimdall is... I can’t get back.” you look up to the sky “They’ll all die.”
“No.” Odin stood “You father is a mighty warrior, if any one can find a way to save the people of Asgard, he can.”
“But where will they go? Without Asgard-”
Odin smiled at you before wrapping his arm around you shoulder. “Asgard isn’t a place, it’s a people. Now I believe your friends are waiting for you.”
You looked down the small slope of the hill, Steve and Nat were standing at the bottom, clearly arguing, you could see the vein in Steve’s neck popping from where you stood.
“I can’t leave now, what about you? What about Hela? And please don’t leave me with a cryptic Norse riddle, my head can only take so much right now.”
He chuckled “Come back for tea, perhaps I can teach you the proper way to play chess.”
“I’ll hold you to that.” you pulled him in for a hug “I’ll be back Grandfather.”
“I look forward to it, Rayna.”
Odin returned to his spot on the flattened tree stump and you strolled down towards Steve and Nat, whose conversation had become silent when they saw you approaching.
“Please don’t stop on my account.”
“Are you okay? Did he like hand you the throne?” Nat gave your shoulder a comforting squeeze
“Not exactly, I can fill you guys in on the way back to Wakanda.”
They looked to each other, knowingly and concerned. Steve scratched at his chin “Yeah, about that.”
“What’s wrong?”
“How would you like to see Scotland?” Nat asks you after a brief moment of silence
With your hypnosis gone and your identity fully known, you and Steve reunite and pick you right where your left off. But with The Avengers disbanded and a new danger looming in the future, what’ll keep everything from falling apart?
Summary: After a quick birthday celebration, you and the others plan an impromptu trip to Norway.
Warnings: Mentions of previous smut, hints of Bucky x Reader? Final goodbyes
A/N: Sorry it’s been a while for an update, I’m jumping back and forth between this blog and my original pieces and looking into self-publishing. Lots of big things in the works. Also if you haven’t seen Message From the King you should, Chadwick does an amazing job in that film. Enjoy!
“How many hickies are you trying to give me?” You laughed slash moaned while Steve kissed and bit in random parts of your body
“One for every year you’ve been alive.” He kissed on your pelvic bone, the next spot for him to mark
“I’m 84.”
“Exactly, so let me continue before I lose count.”
“Yes sir.” Your fingers raked through his hair, watching him kiss down your body “Best birthday yet.”
“You made mine special, I’m returning the favor.” He bit down on your hip, holding you in place with his weight, you shuddered softly. When he was satisfied with his work Steve kissed up your stomach before lightly pecking your lips.
“You know we haven’t left this room since I got here. They might think we’re dead.”
“It’s not the worse way to go. And we did leave.”
“For thirty minutes, to find the kitchen. And you couldn’t keep your hands to yourself.” You nudged him with your foot, subtly reminding him of how carried away the two of you got when feeding each other strawberries. Ending up with the two of you hiding in the pantry, half naked and waiting for the guard to leave so you could return to the room.
“We’re lucky we didn’t get caught.” You started to move to the edge of the bed when Steve pulls you back into his chest “Steve-”
“I missed a spot.” He kissed on your shoulder blade
“We told Sam we’d hang out with them today.” You giggled and pulled away “It’s rude to decline an invitation the day of, especially without a viable reason.”
“I want you to myself, that’s reason enough.” Steve watched you move over to the full length mirror that sat in the corner. He smiled as you assessed the bite marks and handprints he left behind.
“Steve, I look like a dalmatian.”
He chuckled before he moved to get ready himself. Despite his not so subtle suggestion for taking a shower together, you didn’t want to run the risk of never making it out the room, so you decided to take separate showers. You watched Steve get ready, since you only had to shimmer on a new outfit, a long sleeved shirt, a scarf wrapped around your neck and long jeans, thanks to him.
“That’s not going to look suspicious.” He told you as you both walked back down to the study to meet everyone else “It’s the middle of summer.”
“Would you rather have me in a skimpy skirt and a low cut top, showing off?” You questioned jokingly
“If you wore anything of the sort, we definitely wouldn’t have made it out the room.”
“Holy shit, she can still walk.” Sam was the first one to open his mouth when you and Steve entered the study “And sporting a modest scarf, odd piece of clothing for summer in Wakanda.”
“My bikini is at the cleaners.”
“Happy birthday Kiddo.” Sam moves in to give you a strong hug
“Thanks Sam.”
“Didn’t think you two would show up.” Bucky said, leaning against the wall on the far side of the room “Guess I owe Nat fifty bucks now.”
“In American currency if you will.” Natasha smirked “Happy birthday, Rayna.”
It took you a second to remember she was addressing you. “Thanks Nat. Shall we go and eat, I’m starving.”
“Well you’ve been working up an appetite for the last two days.”
You all began to file out of the room back into the hall.
“Seriously, like rabbits.” Sam added “I pity who ever had the room next to yours- oh wait, that was me.”
“Sorry Sam.” Steve wrapped his arms around your waist and kissing you on the cheek.
“No you’re not. But you will be when Bucky and I tell (Y/N) all about the goat incident.”
“Stooping low Sam.” A light blush showed up on Steve’s cheeks
“What about a goat?”
“Apparently Stevie here missed you so much that he started having dreams about you.” Bucky started, trailing behind the group “Very vivid dreams, if you catch my drift.”
“So we’re camping out at Bucky’s place, resting as much as we can before we leave again. Steve, being the fossil that he is, fell asleep first. And starts talking in his sleep, calling for you.” Sam gestures to you
“I thought he was having a nightmare again, but when I looked up he was spooning one of my goats. And she was not happy about it.”
“Now the damn goat won’t leave him alone.” Sam laughed, you did your best to hide your amusement but failed horribly
“I’m sorry for laughing, but you have to admit it’s funny.” You said to Steve between giggles “I have tons of embarrassing stories from Asgard.”
“And you’re welcomed to tell us all about it over dessert.” T'challa greets you at the doors leading to a screening room. He reached for your hand to kiss it lightly “Princess (Y/N), happy birthday.”
“Thank you.”
Fast approaching footsteps turned your attention to Shuri, who pushed her brother out of the way and wrapped her arms around you.
“Happy birthday. How are you feeling?”
Nat shot Sam a warning glare before he could say anything inappropriate. Steve did the same to Bucky.
“I feel great, no side effects that I know of so far.”
“I got you something.” Shuri reached into her pocket and pulled out a small gift box “Well I made it.”
Sitting inside the box was a bracelet made of round black beads with tiny engravings on them.
“They’re call Kimoyo beads, made from vibranium, they're multipurpose and have better reception than a cell phone.”
“It’s beautiful Shuri, thank you.” You slipped the bracelet on your wrist, they shift and secure themselves on your wrist so they wouldn’t move or fall off. You turn your hand over and the words ‘happy birthday’ shine from the beads “I just hope my powers won’t short it out.”
“It’s perfectly safe.” she assures you before turning to Bucky “Nice to see you again White Wolf.”
“Same to you Shuri." Bucky grinned
"Are you joining us for the movie?” Steve ask
“Unfortunately I have work to do in my lab, plus I am not old enough to sit in on adult conversations.” Shuri rolled her eyes
“Mother’s words, not mine.” T'challa argued “You will get your chance when you are older.”
Shuri mimicked her brother’s voice under her breath as she walked away, a guard right behind her. T'challa stood to the side to let the rest of you in the dimly lit room. The smell of food filled the room, over to your right was a table full of food complete with chicken and beef stir fry, dinner rolls, and few ribs and cesar salad.
“Whoa, you went all out Sam. I would’ve been fine with pizza.” You tell him
“I didn’t do anything.” Sam’s mouth was stuffed with half a dinner roll.
“My sister insisted, said that this should be a special birthday for you.” T'challa explained “Being back with your loved ones.”
“Oh now I wish she stayed.” You slightly pout “She didn’t have to do all this.”
“In her opinion it could’ve been better, but apparently someone ate all the strawberries that were going to be used for the shortcake.”
“Imagine that.” Steve gives you a small squeeze on the butt, you blush and bite your lip.
Everyone moved around the table, picking up different food to place on their plates. You end up drifting closer to Bucky by the crepes.
"So White Wolf? Is that what you're calling yourself now?"
He shrugged, setting down his plate to add more food "I kinda adopted it. I'm technically the black sheep here.... Well the white sheep."
"Do you like it here? You seem a lot more relaxed."
"Yeah, it's amazing. Everyone’s so welcoming, there’s little to no crime. And the sunsets are something out of movies." He gives you a friendly smile before averting his eyes again
"What's wrong?"
"Your scarf slipped." He reached up to fix your scarf back over a bite mark "Looks like everything between you and Steve is going good."
"Yeah, we said I love you for the first time."
He nods, examining a piece of broccoli. "Big step, possible wedding bells in the future?"
You blush and nudge him in his side. "I just got back, let's not jump to life altering choices."
"Alright. It's your day Princess- Rayna? (Y/N)? Which one are you going with?"
"Honestly, whichever you prefer. I have so many names at this point I’ll answer to anything.” you joke, sneaking a bit of frosting from a corner slice of cake
“Sure thing- Princess.” Bucky smiles before sauntering off to a plush chair in front of a large screen. Steve calls you over to settle in the seat next to him.
“So what are we watching? I have a year worth of movies I’ve missed out on.”
You all settle for a movie called “Message from the King”, even on their day off, Steve and the others never strayed too far from action. Although there was a lot of jeering when something unrealistic happened. Which was every twenty minutes. However, the film made you think of Odin and Thor, and how secrets tore you apart from each other, just like in movie.
“You alright?” Steve asks you, squeezing your hand
“I have another birthday request.” You tell him
“Please not here, don’t ruin the screening room with your non-stop super human, Asgardian sex-capades.” Sam looks at you with tired eyes
“It’s not that Sam. I want to go to Norway, it doesn’t have to be right now but the sooner the better.”
“What’s in Norway?” Nat asks, helping herself to another beer
“My grandfather, I want to see him.”
“Your grandfather, as in Odin?” Steve’s shocked expression spoke for everybody “The man who threw you out of Asgard?”
“Yes. He said we would see each other again before…” You looked back to the screen at the rolling credits, then shrug “I don’t know, maybe it’s a stupid idea. If he wanted to see me then he’d find me right?”
“You’ve met him already?” Bucky leaned in a bit from the other side of Sam
“Yeah, I sort of broke him out of a retirement home.”
“What do you get into when we’re not around?” Sam wondered
“I haven’t even got the chance to tell you about the huge python that nearly killed me.”
“The what?” Steve’s face grew pale
“Nothing.” You rub reassuring circles on his back
“You can tell us all about that on the way to Norway.” Natasha stood, Steve gave her a stern look “Clearly she’s made amends with him Rogers, don’t give me that look.”
“I think you should go.” T'challa chimes in “Family, no matter how dysfunctional, is all we have in the end.”
“Steve, I can understand why you don’t like him. But if he hadn’t cast me out then, I wouldn’t be here now.” You tell him “I’m going to say my last goodbyes to him. I’d like it if you were there, if not I’ll go alone.”
“After the year I’ve had, I’m not letting you out of my sight.” Steve wrapped his arm around your shoulders “Wheels up in thirty.”
“We can never have a normal week.” Sam muttered as he stood “I’m taking the dinner rolls.”
* * *
When Steve said he wasn’t letting you out of his sights he meant it, you figured that out when he had you sit in the co-pilot seat before the quinjet began to take off.
“Steve I still can’t drive a car, what in Norns sakes makes you think I can fly the jet?” You asked as he strapped you in
“You aren’t flying, I am and if you need to switch out with Nat then you will.” He assured you with a kiss on your cheek
“Enough, let’s get this show on the road!” Sam punched the roof of the jet, earning an annoyed look from Nat and Steve
You peaked out the window, over at Bucky who gave a small salute from where he stood, along with T'challa and Shuri.
“Why isn’t Bucky going? He’s not afraid to fly with me is he?” You wave back to them while Steve settled in. The last time you and Bucky were on the jet together, you had just tried to kill him thanks to Dr. Schmidt.
“No, he opted out of the trip, in case anything were to happen while we’re away.” Steve says “Buck doesn’t go on missions anymore. Not even small ones. Doesn’t want to risk- relapse.”
“Oh.. is he gonna be fine while we’re gone? I’d hate taking all of you away from each.” Tony was the first person to pop up in your mind, you promised to check in with him, told him he wouldn’t lose anymore family.
“Yeah, he knows we can’t stay too long to begin with, but it anything happens T'challa will get in contact with us.” Steve flipped a few switches on the console before the jet lifted off the landing pad on the ground
“So Rayna, how are we gonna find your grandfather?” Nat asks you once you’re out of Wakanda’s barrier
“I could ask Heimdall, he might know where my grandfather is, he sees all.”
“What do you mean?” Sam’s eyebrow lifted
“Heimdall was the bifrost keeper, until Loki falsely charged him for treason. He has the gift of sight, if he wishes to see you then he will be able to find you anywhere you are.” You explained
“Loki? I thought he was dead.”
“So did I, Thor still believes he’s gone.”
“When was the last time you spoke with Thor?” Steve was the one to ask this question
“Four months? Maybe five. He continued his search for the stones, he believes I’m still on Asgard.”
“Why didn’t you go to find him? Instead of come back here. I mean, if it were me I’d look for the person who could help the most.” Sam suggested
“The world may be small but the universe is infinite. Finding my father is like searching for an empty chamber during Ostara.” You laughed at your joke, the others looked around, confused “It’s…. Nevermind.”
You folded your legs into lotus position, and closed your eyes. “Heimdall, give me sight.”
You were by a creek this time, not too far from the marketplace in Asgard but still far enough so no one could see you. A light splashing drew in your attention, behind you Heimdall was kneeling by the creek, cleaning his face.
“Forgive me for the intrusion.” You tell him
“No apologies necessary Princess. Just glad you didn’t call an half hour prior, I was bathing.” He chuckled “You wish for new information?”
“Yes, I need help finding Odin. I know he’s in Norway, but I don’t know where exactly.”
“Unfortunately I am unable to locate him.”
“How is that possible?”
“Without the bifrost, I can only see so far. My powers are limited, and I will need them in the future.” He rose to his feet and began to stroll upstream, you followed
“But then how will I find him?”
“Magic, you did learn tracking spells during your time here correct?”
“Yes, but how will I be able to reach you? What if you need me? Or if my father is in trouble?”
“You are in tuned with every soul you meet, as Goddess of life and light you will feel if your loved ones are in danger.” He stared off to the distance “I must leave, use what you have learned Princess.” He paused “And I must apologize once more, for my wrongdoings against you.”
“There’s no need to apologize to me Heimdall. I have forgiven you.”
He nods solemnly “You really do look like your mother. Norns rest her soul. It has been an honor knowing you Rayna.”
“You speak as if this is the last time we’ll see each other.” He didn’t respond, only gave you a light hearted smile “Heimdall?”
You blinked and you were back on the jet. Steve was the first to speak, seeing the concerned look in your eyes.
“Did he tell you where Odin is?”
“No, he couldn’t. Without the bifrost his powers are getting weaker. But he said I should be able to find him on my own.”
“What’s wrong Ray?” Natasha asked when she saw your face
“I think that was the last time I was going to speak with him.” You wiped away the forming tear “I think someone found him.”
“I’m sorry Doll.” Steve reached over to hold your hand
“He was my last chance to find Thor, and protect my family. Last chance to return to Asgard.” You took a shaky breath, Sam was looking over the jet, his own paranoia setting in place. You felt his anxiety “I’m good Sam, just processing. The closer we get to Norway the easier it’ll be for me to find Odin. Maybe he can help me fix this.”
“I’m sure he can.” Natasha gave your shoulder a squeeze “Now about this giant python that nearly killed you.”
Sequel to The Captain and The Culprit! With your hypnosis gone and your identity fully known, you and Steve reunite and pick up right where you left off. But with The Avengers disbanded and a new danger looming in the future, what’ll keep everything from falling apart?
Summary: Things are going great for you on Asgard, until a ‘threat’ to the throne is revealed
You ran through the garden, face covered in a light sweat, as you looked for a place to hide before you could be found. Ducking behind a large bush, while quieting your breathing, you listened out for a sign of your approaching opponents. The soft footsteps along the grass alerted you to the two people closing in on you.
The sun peeked from behind the clouds, your shadow cast out from behind the bush. You roll out the way in time for a blade to slice through the top of the topiary.
"Sif!" Hogun protested "Thor said we were no longer permitted to use the swords during training."
"Got caught up I suppose." Sif gave you a sly grin as she replaced the sword in its sheath "Are you alright- Princess?"
"Fine." You grimace helping yourself up
You'd been on Asgard for the last ten months, learning and training with your powers and hand to hand combat from only the very best: Lady Sif and The Warriors Three.
"I apologize for Sif." Hogun says to you in a whisper "She's still a bit testy about you."
The day Thor arrived with you by his side, the whole kingdom was in uproar about how the future King of Asgard had an illegitimate child. You had to be confined to the palace for nearly three weeks, and palace guards had to escort you everywhere when you were eventually allowed to leave. Many speculated if you were actually the daughter of Thor, one of them being Lady Sif herself. She was constantly giving you jagged glares and making sly comments under her breath in passing, but never around Thor. He would occasionally drop in on a session whenever he returned from his search for the infinity stones, but lately his visits grew shorter and less frequent.
"Of course she is." You look over your shoulder at Sif, now polishing one of her daggers "Mind if we end a little early? I’ve made plans for the rest of my evening."
"Not at all Your Highness." Hogun bowed
"(Y/N), please." You still hadn't grown accustomed to having an Royal title, you still enjoyed being simply (Y/N)
"Are we boring you Princess?" Sif called after you "Rather go out gallivanting with your friends?"
You don't bother to respond to her as you leave the garden to return to the palace halls. A few servants stop to bow at you while you stroll pass them, heading towards the throne room. You smile when you see the older gentleman standing in the center of the room, admiring the artwork on the ceiling.
"Gainor." You run to him, wrapping him in a tight hug
"(Y/N)." He hugs you back, kissing the top of your head "My beautiful granddaughter. How are you my child?"
"A lot better now. Where's everyone else?" you look over to the doors, expecting to see other people waiting for you
"Cadence thought it'd be best we didn't overwhelm you with the screaming hoard of relatives. They're all waiting for us back in Norheim."
“(Y/N).” Odin approached you with a proud grin, an expression that dimmed slightly when he made eye contact with Gainor “I see you’re finished with your training today.”
“Yeah- I mean yes Allfather. I’m off to Norheim today.” you feel the growing tension between your grandfather's “Remember I told you about it last week.”
In addition to the uproar of your arrival, a long standing feud between Odin and Gainor resurfaced. Gainor blamed Odin for everything that happened all those years ago with you being cast out as a baby as well as the unfortunate falling out between Thor and your mother.
“Yes of course, please enjoy.” Odin patted your hands
“Thank you.” awkwardly bowed to him.
Gainor steers you out of the throne room, throwing a spiteful glare back at Odin. Two horses were waiting for you out front, along with a palace guard (You still weren’t allowed to go far without them). Once you mounted the horses, you all start off for Norheim.
“I do wish you chose to stay with your grandmother and me, instead with that- Frost Giant of a man, you unfortunately have to call blood.” Gainor says lowly to you to keep the guard from hearing
“Odin isn’t that bad, he’s just...he’s....” You couldn’t seem to define Odin in just a small matter of words. There were times where he was lively and attentive and other times where he was completely blank and lost. “I guess he is a bit off.”
The day you met Odin, he called you ‘Thor’s new pet’ and was completely taken aback when you corrected him. Telling him that he was there the day you were sent to earth, but he appeared as if he had no recollection of the event at all. As if he had no idea you existed in the first place. Although he welcomed you with open arms, he always kept his distance from both you and Thor; most days you believed it was because of guilt, but other days you felt as if you were dealing with a completely different person.
Upon your arrival in Norheim you felt your palms get clammy, you'd slowly been introduced to your mother's family, starting with your grandparents Gainor and Cadence. They were reduced to tears when they saw you. After them you met uncles and your aunt, all with kids of their own, that’s who you were meeting today.
"Gainor, is that you?" Cadence shouts over the commotion in large yet cozy Villa
It seemed to filled to the very brim with people, all buzzing and quickly swarming around the door to see you.
"Yes my Love, I've brought- back away you'll scare her-" Gainor pushed through the large group "(Y/N) is here with me!"
"Oh my she looks just like her mother." An older woman squishes your cheeks "May her soul finally rest peacefully knowing you've made your way back home."
"Let the girl breath for Norns sake." Cadence, your grandmother pulls you back from the woman holding your cheeks "(Y/N), this is my sister, your Aunt Fatima. She's dipped into the mead a few times before your arrival."
"Have not!" Fatima hiccuped
"Come meet the others."
After being introduced and reintroduced to relatives, you were able to find a moment of peace when you slinked off to Gainor's study. You enjoyed being in there, surrounded by many books and other small family heirlooms, you knew that if you grew up on Asgard your fondest memories would be in this room, and not on a Hydra examination table.
You shudder at the cold memories, things you hadn't thought about in what felt like years. Unlike Steve, who was on your mind constantly. You sighed, playing with the dog tags around your neck. Although you loved seeing Asgard and getting to know yourself, you couldn't wait to return to earth and be with him again.
"(Y/N)? Is everything alright?" Cadence pokes her head in to see you curled up on the chaise lounge
"Yes Ma'am." You nod
"I've told you before. Stop being so formal." She sits next to you and kisses your forehead before examining your face "You really do look just like your mother."
"Tell me about her again?" You find yourself resting your head in her lap "About how they met."
“Your mother was incredibly smart, such a kind and beautiful spirit. They met while your grandfather was tutoring Thor, your mother would tag along with him to the palace. And they were smitten with one another." Cadence starts, stroking your hair while speaking "Time passed and Thor decided to court your mother. Or what did you call it on Midgard?"
"He asked her on a date."
"Yes, although Odin did not approve completely, he set aside his belief that royal blood should marry royal blood for his son's happiness. And then one morning I caught your mother climbing through that window, after spending the previous evening out with your father." Cadence pointed to the window next to the lounge chair. "I didn't know it then, but that was the night you came to be. And it was also the last night your father would be on Asgard before traveling to Vanaheim to finish his studying."
"Was she sad?"
"Oh, your mother wept for days, until she realized she was going to have you. She ran away to the palace, she feared we'd disown her.... Unfortunately Odin decided it would be best to keep you a secret, being conceived out of wedlock, and with them being so young."
"What happened afterwards?" You frowned, already knowing the answer
"Your mother was a strong woman, but even a mighty bolder gets worn down by crashing waves." Cadence sighs "Being in that palace, under his thumb for so long, Odin somehow convinced your mother that Thor would be unwavering to the idea of a child. That giving you a home elsewhere would be better than living with a father that resented you.”
You felt the stray tear running along the side of your nose and quickly wipe it away before Cadence could see. You never went into full details about being raised by Hydra, never bringing up the torturous experiments and hypnosis just to save them from imagining you being put through all of that.
“The day she put you in the bifrost, the day she returned home, the light in her soul vanished. She was gone come winter.” Cadence stopped stroking your hair, you sit up and see her staring out the window
“Grandmother?” you held her hand, bringing her out of her trance
“But thank the Norns you crossed paths with Thor, and he brought you home to us.” she gave a sad smile and a gentle touch of your cheek “Your mother would be proud of who you became. We all are.”
You fight back the stinging tears as the palace guard storms into the room.
“My apologies Princess, but we must return to the palace immediately.” he holds a hand out to you
“Why? What’s happened?” Cadence asks holding a protective arm to you
“It’s the bifrost keeper, Heimdal. He’s just been sentenced to death for treason.”
