It had been pouring rain since mid-morning and thunder rolled across the hillsides. The sound of it was one of Rook’s favorites, ranking somewhere just below Emmrich’s laughter, but he was still very happy they made their way back to the house in time.  It got colder, so Emmrich got the fire going in the living room, and they were enjoying a lazy morning cuddled together on the couch. Until Rook managed to bump into Emmrich's elbow just as he was taking a sip of his lukewarm tea, making it spill all over the front of his shirt. “Shit, sorry, love,” Rook said, taking the cup from Emmrich and setting it on the coffee table. “I'll get you a clean shirt, okay?” “Thank you, darling.” Rook rushed upstairs to rummage around in Emmrich's closet. He could at least pick something different from what he usually wore. He dove into the back of the shelf and pulled out a dark green tunic, the one which Emmrich hardly ever wore, because it apparently wasn’t distinguished enough, but Rook loved for the way it brought out Emmrich's eyes. He kept it folded and ran back down the stairs with it, jumping across the railing when he was halfway down just to keep things interesting. Emmrich had already removed his stained shirt and he was standing next to the fireplace, making Rook wonder whether he should just take the tunic back upstairs. He looked good like this, all glowing in the firelight. Rook was pining again. Emmrich had his back to him and he was running a hand over a flower design on a drawer. And then he opened it and started checking out what was inside. Rook put the tunic down on the coffee table and crept closer. “Emmrich Volkarin!” he gasped when he was right behind him. “Are you snooping through the drawers of noble house Dellamorte?”  Emmrich nearly jumped. He turned to Rook with a very embarrassed smile. “Can you blame an academic for being curious?” he said, steepling his fingers together in a very unsuccessful attempt at looking composed. “Guess not,” Rook laughed, moving closer to look inside the drawer too. “Find anything interesting?” he asked, nudging Emmrich with his shoulder.
