“I have to go out there,” Scott paced the lounge as Kayo watched him.
“He would call if he needs you.”
Scott shook his head, “no, something is wrong, I can tell.”
“Relax sweetheart.”
Scott stopped and clutched his head suddenly, “oh.”
“What’s wrong?” Kayo leapt up and grabbed his arm, “Scott?”
“I’m launching, tell Gordon to get out of the pool,” Scott ran to the lamps leaving Kayo standing bewildered on the steps, she walked to the edge of the lounge and called down, “clear out Gordon, Scott is launching.”
“Why?”
“Ask later, now move or you’ll be fried fish.”
Gordon got out of the pool reluctantly as he heard it clunk and he walked into the kitchen as Kayo joined him, “if this is that damn telepathic thing he believes he has, I’ll kill him.”
“He just grabbed his head and decided to take off.”
Gordon rolled his eyes as the pool disappeared under the patio and Thunderbird 1 roared up past them whipping their hair up, “I don’t believe him, I think he’s just being his usual overprotective brother self.”
Kayo shrugged, “we’ll just have to see what happens.”
Hours passed until at last Thunderbird 1 and 2 returned to the island, everything seemed normal except Scott wasn’t piloting his ship manually and was behind the controls of his brother’s ship, Gordon ran down to see Scott staggering out of Thunderbird 2 holding up Virgil.
“Shit,” Gordon gasped.
“Gordon, take his other side!” Scott called desperately.
“What happened?” Gordon asked as he noticed the blood on his brother’s uniform, blood belonging to Virgil.
Scott lay Virgil down on one of the infirmary beds as Gordon hovered beside it, “I found him unconscious, I’m hoping when he wakes up he can tell me himself,” he began a scan, “no bones broken, just cuts and a gash on the head.”
Kayo looked down at her brother, “these look like slash marks, maybe he was attacked?”
“Come on Virg, wake up,” Scott stroked Virgil’s hair back as Gordon tended to the gash on his forehead.
“Ugh…No touching, the hair…” Virgil croaked and Scott grinned, “Scott?”
“I’m here big guy.”
“How did you know where I was?” Virgil looked up at him then noticed his siblings move closer to him.
“I felt something, the hairs on the back of my neck started to itch and I suddenly got a headache,” he looked at the plaster covering a cut on Virgil’s forehead, “as if something had struck it.”
“You’re covered in blood?”
“Yours. We’ve patched up a cut on your chest.”
Gordon leant against the bedposts, “you cannot be implying that you have a sixth sense?"
Scott shrugged, “I don’t know what it is, but I knew Virgil was injured.”
Virgil smiled, “thanks, Scott.”
“Anytime, I suggest you get some rest, we’ll be in the lounge.”
The trio went up to the lounge leaving Virgil to sleep and found Alan reading on the sofa.
“Hey, you guys look upset, what’s up?”
“Virgil got hurt,” Kayo sat down at the desk as Scot pulled the piano stool out.
“Hurt!? Is he ok?”
“He’s fine Alan, Scott worked some voodoo on him,” Gordon smirked as Scott began to play.
“Voodoo?”
“Yeah, Scott has this strange telepathic thing going on.”
Scott frowned as he looked over, “that strange voodoo as you put it just saved our brother’s life, so don’t be so quick to ignore it.”
“Does it work with all of us or just Virgil?” Alan asked.
“It happened without any warning,” Scott looked down at his hands, “I guess you guys have to be mortal danger for it to work.”
Virgil walked into his room stripping off his uniform as he closed the door and chucked the tattered suit down the garbage chute, he walked over to his wardrobe pausing by the mirror to look at himself, scars from old missions painted white lines across his arms and shoulders and now a huge bandage laughed at him from his chest, he pulled a shirt down gently over his head and zipped up a pair of jeans before turning to his desk where a photo of his family stood grinning at him, he opened a drawer and found a note from his mother, he sat down on the bed and read it.
“Dearest Virgil,
I’ll be back soon from my business trip, look after yourselves and your brothers, I am depending on you and Scott to be in charge (laugh). He and yourself are closer than you’ll ever know…” Virgil read this line over and over, perhaps there was something connecting them? Scott was still playing when Virgil walked into the lounge, the others were in the pool below and the second eldest approached the piano.
“Scott, I was reading a letter mom left for me.”
“Yeah?” Scott looked up at him with a smile.
“She said we were closer than we’d ever know,” Virgil frowned.
“Seriously? What did she know that we don’t know?”
Virgil shrugged, “who knows, but you do seem to know if something is wrong before it happens.”
“Maybe you’re too predictable,” Scott smirked as he stretched his fingers to the top octaves in a fast descending scale.
“Well whatever we have, it works,” Virgil smiled as he leant back on the piano lid.
“How are you feeling?”
“Sore, but I’ll live.”
Scott smiled, “good,” he continued to play and Virgil moved round to turn pages for his brother.
