F.A.Q.
Thylla, a Wywlk, approached her crew mate. They exchanged nonverbal greetings and Thylla held out her arm. Hullon touched his skin to hers.
‘How can I be of assistance ?’ He asked.
‘I have questions about humans.’
Hullon brightened, his species type of silent laugh. ‘Doesn’t everyone?’
‘Yes, I suppose so. If they weren’t so vexing, I doubt they’d be the center of so many controversies.’
‘What is your question Thylla?’
‘Humans have no set form of psychic communication, correct?’
‘Correct. Although they do have several types of nonverbal communication, they do not posses the ability to project thoughts or carry conversations via a psychic link.’
‘Then please explain what Sayid and Talia are doing over there.’
They both turned to observe the human siblings. Sayid and Talia were listening to their crew mates talk about their latest trip back home, and they would shoot subtle glances at each other every other sentence. Immediately following the look, they would then make the same face, or hold back laughter, or nod simultaneously.
‘They must be coordinating this, which means they must be speaking somehow,’ Thylla insisted.
‘Talia once tried to explain to me. When humans have enough of a shared history or great knowledge of one another, certain words will trigger specific memories. The glances are to see if the same memory was triggered in the other person. They aren’t so much as communicating as they are thinking the same because of a shared history.’ Hullon knew his explanation was weak at best. In truth, he barely understands how that can even be, but he’s seen it in person too many times to think it false.
‘If this is true, then I would very much like to be connected with one to experience this ‘talking with glances’. My people appreciate all forms of nonverbal communication.’
‘It’s not likely to hurt if you ask,’ Hullon agreed.
Thylla broke their connection and walked over to the two humans. She began with human sign language.
After making her request, she saw the two siblings look at each other for a long moment. She was amazed at the information she sensed in the look, but no words or movement passed between them.
Talia turned back to Thylla and held out her wrist. Thylla sat and gently pressed her skin to hers.
‘I’m not sure if you’ll actually be able to see anything, because I’m not sure how this works. I just know that sometimes my brother and I can share a look and know exactly what the other is thinking,’ Talia explained.
‘I do not wish to interrupt, merely observe.’
Talia nodded and went back to listening to their fellow crew mates. It was more difficult to relax into the same attitude as before, but not impossible.
Thylla was amazed as the two humans began sharing glances again. She could see brief flashes of the perceived information being communicated across. Thylla had no clue eyes could be so telling.
Quite suddenly, Thylla broke the connection to rush back to her quarters. She felt quite ill and didn’t want to show her weakness there.
“You don’t think she knew we were thinking about Amm and his farm, do you?” Sayid asked quietly.
“I’m not sure what she was able to see or not, but we should probably go check on her in a few minutes to be sure. If she did, we might need to explain some things,” Talia replied, glancing at the hallway Thylla disappeared into.
Sayid sighed. “That’s gonna be a weird one to explain.”
Talia nodded and then started to smile. She glanced at her brother and saw him connect the dots and begin to smile too.
“That’s wrong and you know it,” he said, trying not to laugh.
Thalia sat cross legged on the coach with her eyebrows knitted together. If she wasn't frowning you might've thought she was just in deep thought. Thalia's eyes were focused on the TV, but she clearly wasn't paying attention. She was so lost in her anger that she hadn't noticed that Hylla had come home.
Hylla sighed deeply as she went entered the house. She sighed again seeing her girlfriend, she walked over to the couch and sat down next to Thalia. “Thalia, is everything al- AH SHIT!” Hylla had reached her hand out to place a hand on Thalia's shoulder only to be shocked by a bright blue bolt.
Hylla didn't let that deter her from trying to break Thalia out of her funk. “Thalia…I can't help fix what's wrong if you don't talk to me.” Thalia finally moved after sitting still for God knows how long. “I-i…it's fine.”
Thalia was many good things. A good sister, a good friend, a good leader, and a good archer. However, a good liar was not one of those things. Thalia clearly wasn't ok. Hylla wrapped her arm around her girlfriend and pulled her closer. “No it's not. You don't have to lie to me, Thalia. Tell me, what's wrong.”
Thalia sniffled as she used the back of her arm to wipe away her tears. “I…” Thalia felt her stomach turn slightly. “God damn it you're doing it again..” Thalia whispered to herself, but not quiet enough for Hylla not to hear. “Thalia..talk to me.” Hylla used her hands to lean Thalia's head back and look up at her.
Hylla had worried written across her. Her eyebrows had knitted together which made her look angry, but her eyes were soft and nervous. Thalia sifted and wiggled out of her girlfriend's hold.“It's ok, Hylla, you don't need to worry about me all the time. You have too much on you-”
“Don't give me that bullshit ever again!” Hylla said grabbing onto Thalia's hand. “Thalia, were going to talk this out, with a bottle of wine.” Thalia shifted nervously. “A-alright.” Thalia sat down as Hylla went to get two wine glass and the Rose wine shed been saving.
Hylla sat down and placed the glasses down on the coffee table and poured wine in each of them and handed one to Thalia. Thalia drank from the glass slowly before leaning against Hylla. “You really need sleep Hylla. Don't bother with me.”
“Thalia, I want to help you.” Hylla kissed Thalia's forehead. “I'm not going to force it out of you, but you aren't leaving this couch until you do.” Thalia stayed silent and continued to drink her wine for almost 2 hours.
“It's just..you're always there for me!” Thalia said out of the blue as tears pricked the corner of her eye. “It's always like that! It's always Hylla coming to save Thalia, or Hylla taking care of Thalia! It's never the other way around!”
Thalia was clearly drunk, but Hylla wasn't going to interrupt her. “You're always there for me, and I'm not there when you need me!” Thalia put the glass down and wiped her tears. “It's…it's not fair to you! I can't take care of you as much as I want to!”
Thalia sobbed as she leaned against Hylla. Hylla stopped Thalia from using her sleeve to wipe her face and used a tissue. “You're doing it right now!” Thalia moved her girlfriend's hands away from her face. “You're always protecting me and you do it so easily!”
“I can't even list one fucking time I've helped you!” Thalia said letting her tears flow down her cheeks. “I want to help you and take care of you, but I can't!” Thalia continued to talk down herself. Hylla was listening, she wasn't going to say anything until Thalia, well she had plan to do that. “If I left you, your life would be so much eas-”
“Don't give that bullshit Thalia!” Hylla sad putting down her glass. “If it weren't for you, do you really think I'd be as relaxed as I am now?” Thalia didn't answer at first. “No, but you wouldn't worry about having to come back home. You'd get more done” Hylla sighed. “Thalia, I’d be lost without you. You do so much for me.”
“Thalia, without you I'd forget to take care of myself. You remind me to eat, to make sure I take a break, and to go sleep.” Hylla said as she went to wipe her girlfriend's tears. “Thalia when I'm gone you help me here. You keep our apartment in check.”
“Fuck, you remind me not to be overbearing, you remind me that I'm still young and I need to be young, but still need to responsible.” Hylla said pulling Thalia's head to her chest. “You may not think so, but you help me out just as much as I help you.”
Thalia shifted slightly biting her lip. “Look, before I met you I was stuck up and strict. I always thought that if I could control everyone, I could keep them safe.” Hylla sighed. “You taught me how to protect everyone and let the live, Thalia.”
Hylla kissed Thalia's cheek wrapping her arms around her waist. “I learned that, sometimes loving someone means having to let them be themselves and grow without yo-” Thalia covered her girlfriends mouth chuckling quietly.
“Alright I get, I help…but you help me with a lot more stuff…” Hylla frowned kissing Thalia again. “Well, there will be a time where it'll be the other way around, and you'll be stuck taking care of me.” Thalia turned around and laid on her stomach resting her head on Hylla's chest. “Yea, and when that day comes, it'll be a relief.”

Hylla and Thalia didn’t manage to escape their well-meaning friends and family until several hours after the ceremony had ended. They didn’t manage to get to their house until almost two in the morning, but as soon as they reached the porch, Hylla reached down and swept Thalia up into her arms, ignoring Thalia’s playful complaints. “Hello, Mx. Ramírez-Arellano,” she said, a warm smile spreading across her lips.
Thalia rolled eir eyes but didn’t hesitate to lean up and kiss Hylla. “Hello, Mrs. Grace,” ey responded, pulling away and beaming up at her. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
