Unlike the movie, the Kraang don't enact revenge immediately. Instead, they buffed their time by building up an army and gathering supplies to rebuild the Technodrome to its former glory. This takes around 6 to 8½ years with the help of Sterling.

An epidemic began in Brooklyn, NY after a prison transport vehicle was hijacked mid-transport. The van was driven into a busy area, where the krang inside were released unto the public. Over 100 people were injured, and ~20 were infected.
Additionally, cases of kraang zombies have been reported from other parts of the United States and even of northern Mexico.
Sterling becomes its own entity.
The Technodrome is nearly restored, and the Primes have a sizable army. However, Primordius waited before launching the first assault.

The kraang finally made a move— by gassing Times Square during the New Year's Ball Drop.
The spore bombs were planted across the city by Sterling, and were set to explode at bi-monthly intervals every three months.
In 2030, 72 bombs were set off between January and December.
The bombings only lasted for five years (2030 – 2035). From then on the infection passed from kraang to non-kraang.
