So? ART asked. How did it go?

It was pushing up against me in the feed, prickling me with its giddy anticipation, like it always did when I got back from an outing with Three.

It was fine.

We'd gone to an aquarium. I didn't care about aquatic fauna, but Three liked watching them and I liked watching it. We stood close without touching. Three smiled a lot. It touched my cheek with its lips before I left.

Tell me more, ART demanded, so I showed it a short video collage. It said, You're happy.

Yeah, I agreed. I am.

It's yet more NULLverse~ Its haunted stare and kitty cat tea pot make me want to eventually actually finish coloring it. Tho I like the way I did its eyes more recently better.

#also arc numbers aside do you know i actually sat down and calculated out that date#based on the CORN can you... can you please elaborate on this i don't think i've ever seen a more fascinating set of tags and i read all your tag rants every time so that's saying something

Haha, this isn’t really as arcane as you may be thinking! I was frustrated by the fact that we never get actual dates for pretty much anything in the 2009 film, and I needed a date for when Jim and Leonard meet on the shuttle. Because even if there is no right answer, I need to have the right answer, you know?

Anyway, there’s a single shot of Jim driving by what’s implied to be a cornfield in the early morning gloom on his way to the shipyard. (The shot is dark as hell and was apparently filmed in California, so who knows what the crop actually was.) So I dug into a bunch of very dry resources specific to Iowa agriculture to pin down the range for when the corn typically starts emerging, and judging by the look of the plants in that shot, I ultimately decided it made sense for it to be early May. Which was perfect, because that stardate lined up very nicely with some other stuff. Thank you, corn!

I guess, yeah. I bristled at calling it a ‘difficulty’: it wasn't hard to touch things, I just didn't like doing it. But I had a system for dealing with that, so whatever, it wasn't an issue.

Property Damage: I slid into StationSecSys and introduced myself as a friendly security consultant investigating a lapse in safety protocol resulting in injury to station guests.

Pathetic Fallacy: I compiled a blacklist of stations to avoid transferring through on my way to VathArdiem Station.

Timely Departure: Three didn't visit Preservation as often as I did (it had friends here, but these were my humans), so it usually tried to arrive in time for a holiday or festival.

External Motivation: When I arrive on Preservation, I can't decide what is more surprising: that Murderbot has been staying on the planet instead of its station apartment, or that it hasn't left yet.

😅 I thought about skipping most of the Drabble December/Unplanned Detour drabble sequence fics since they're all part of the same story, but... I do quite like all the drabbles I wrote, so whatever. I can show them off if I want to.
