You want MC to talk back to people with supernatural powers who could literally fold her like a lawn chair? 😭
And no one's talking about the fact that, by the 1/4 of season 1, she already knows she'll either die or get terminated by Darkwick if a year passes and she still can't cure her curse. She's basically walking on eggshells every single day.
Taiga tells her about the spy situation, she's heard rumors about the Clash and Darkwick is practically a warzone. She can't even leave and she has no idea who she can actually trust. Even when she doesn't want to help Darkwick, she doesn't really have a choice.
Did you even get to the part where you can choose not to go on the mission? Hyde literally asks if you're sure, and Cornelius straight up tells her she has no choice but to follow orders. Moby doesn't even let her get a word in half the time. So if people won't even listen to her, what exactly is she supposed to do?
She sees herself as nothing more than an ordinary person who got dragged into a complete mess full of monsters, conspiracies and people way out of her league, while having her normal life ripped away from her. She's not a born hero or some fearless leader. She's just a normal woman. What exactly do you expect a normal person to do in that situation?
I do agree that her writing has flaws but I think that's more because of the game's approach than the character herself. A lot of gacha games keep the protagonist fairly neutral so players can self-insert, which means they avoid giving the MC too much of a defined personality or backstory early on. And with Kyklos calling her a queen, it's pretty obvious there's a much bigger mystery behind her. Going too deep into her lore now would probably spoil the main story so I can understand why they're holding back.
As for people complaining that she apologizes too much or feels bad all the time, god forbid someone with low self-esteem, insecurity, social anxiety and awkwardness exists. That's just part of her character. It's not "annoying kindness." It's how she processes the world around her, especially when every decision could mean the difference between living and dying.
When you're completely out of your depth and surrounded by monsters that could kill you in seconds, are you going to trust the people who actually know how to fight them, or are you gonna grab a baseball bat and square up with a ghost? 😭

kyklos blessing
okay but imagine the tkdb universe is actually like set in the omegaverse and anomalies can also reproduce therefore Kyklos 'cursing' mc w the spider lily mark was really just an alpha marking its omega type shit (welp that would mean mc is pregnant but oh well...)
Okay, so I had a mildly prophetic-feeling dream about TKDB and I feel like I have to say it out loud. Theory time.
I think, and hear me out here, there's a chance the missing daughter from Episode 21 is the Kyklos.
... I'm not done. I also think that, being the Kyklos, she is also the victim of the One-Eyed Sleeping Beauty Murder.
(I'm probably going to say at least something wrong in the next several paragraphs, so please correct me if I do. Also, as always, this is just conjecture, but. Theory!)
So, first of all,
The day she went missing, she said she was going there alone. It doesn't explicitly say she ever got there. She could've been taken from the train like MC was. It says she went missing 2 years ago, which would fit in the timeline, and that there were no anomalous incidents at Lockburn Castle, which would still be correct if she was abducted by the previous Kyklos on the way.
Kyklos means Cycle. Our Kyklos doesn't seem to be targeting anyone but MC. It feels possible that maybe Kyklos only targets one person at a time, and possibly dies once the curse is passed. The last bit doesn't have any evidence though.
Either way, if the previous Kyklos got the daughter, then what? Well, maybe then, after a year, she turned into the Kyklos in her sleep. Seeing the one-eyed sleeping beauty, someone may have killed it, breaking the academy into 2 factions. Dissidents and Sympathizers. One believes that she shouldn't have been killed simply for being an anomaly, the other believes that, as an anomaly, and thus a danger to other students, this was the right course of action.
"but wait," I hear you saying, "if the one-eyed sleeping beauty was killed, then how would Kyklos still be there to curse MC?"
... Give me a bit to think that over.
*hesitant page flipping*
Ehem. So. It's possible that, while Darkwick was "trying" to find a "cure", for the daughter, before she turned into Kyklos, they placed her in Ultio. Yk, since she was going to turn into an anomaly, and Ultio would likely be best at dealing with anomaly containment when that would happen.
*brain reboots slowly*
... And maybe, since it would seem Kyklos is fairly sentient, either Jiro (who has openly said in one of his lines "they said they wanted to die, so I prescribed that what they needed.") tried and failed to kill her post-turning, at her request, inadvertently setting her free, OR, maybe the one-eyed sleeping-beauty wasn't the one murdered. Maybe she committed the murder, and is called the one-eyed sleeping beauty because whatever "human" is left in her, is forever asleep now.
... Look, I don't know how it happened, okay? I'm just saying it's possible she could've gotten out.
Anyway, moving on. Maybe Kisaragi station is near Lockburn Castle, or the daughters house, and that's why she keeps bringing her victim (MC) there. Ed suggested earlier in the game that may be the Institute, or Darkwick, or whoever, had specifically placed Kyklos is the station.
Maybe they do know how to cure it. Or maybe you can only kill Kyklos where it was turned. Or maybe they knew that Kyklos would curse another person brought there, and they realized if they can reset the cycle, they'd have the new Kyklos back in their grasp.
Whatever the reason, it worked, and now MC is cursed.
I am tangled in several skeins of the red string I had to waste to connect these bots on my hypothetical theory board. I can't move my left arm and I think the string is cutting off circulation to a few of my fingers. Help.
(yeah, I had to take several massive leaps in logic and refuse to explain several things for this to work out, but idk. A theory is a theory. It's not like I'm betting money on this. I barely believe it myself. Would be cool tho. Plus, if I throw enough darts, I gotta hit the board eventually.)
hi danie 😱😱 Considering a fair amount of npcs have some different expression sprites and toggles, do you think the kyklos has some too? And if so could you post them? Just out of curiosity
Tyyyyy!!!
Hi! The Kyklos only has the 'tsujo'(default) and 'ikari'(angry) expressions which you've already seen in the story, which are just changes in her mouth.
