TMNT MM AU-Prologue
So, I've already got the events of the movie mostly planned out.
The boys get captured, and Splinter gets with the Mutanimals. The boys are raised to believe they're tools of TCRI and that they aren't human beings and are therefore unworthy of life or to be treated like people. They have no idea of the outside world and live very isolated.
Splinter is a good dad-- well, an older cousin to the Mutanimals-- but his disdain for humans has grown into hatred. Despite this, he's not super on board with Superfly's plan. He remembers what it was like to be a normal rat and the horror and pain from having your entire being changed like that. But he loves his family and understands their loneliness, so he's supportive. His only criticism is that they don't just kill all humans, but apparently that's not "feasible"; yet enslaving the entire human race is, smh.
Back to the boys: by the time the story starts, they've been working assassin jobs and retrieval missions for a bit under strict monitoring and have just been given their big break, a solo mission where they're assigned to watch over some TCRI tech while keeping their identities and mission hidden. They succeed and find out about Superfly when he steals the tech. They report it and get assigned to find and capture Superfly. It is implied that this is their chance to be fully accepted into the organisation, and failure would lead to their permanent demotion to being lab rats (completely unfair, but that's TCRI 😀).
So the boys now have a limited freedom to scour the city for Superfly but don't actually know where to start. This leads them to stumble into April, and it kinda just unravels from there.
This is the prologue and setting for the rest of the story. I'm going to be dropping scenes of the events that happened, so stay tuned. I'll try to be quick or at least consistent, but this is for fun and very self-indulgent.
We'll get to the boys next time!

March for Raph

Day 4: Teddy bear
--
"Aw!" Mikey exclaims, head popping out of an old cardboard box, a grin on his face, "remember this?"
Raph abandons the trash bags he was searching through, his assigned chore for their new spring cleaning regimen—all the while trying to ignore the moral implications of storing old family belongings in a trash bag—and scoots closer to peer at the old frame in Mikey's hands. It holds a picture of the four of them, much tinier and baby-fatter versions, posing in their living room wearing party hats on their heads.
"Ah, your sixth birthday." Dad says, a nostalgic smile playing on his lips. "The first time I was able to bake a cake for you! You all looked so cute and cuddly." He reaches out to pinch Mikey's cheeks. "And now you're all grown-up! It's so sad."
"I think Mikey is the least grown-up out of all of us, Dad." Donnie jokes and Mikey sticks his tongue out at him.
"Oh, hey, I remember!" Leo pipes up. "We got a teddy bear as a present, right?"
"You mean I got a teddy bear as a present," Raph counters, "and you all stole him from me."
"No way! Mr. Razzmatazz belonged to all of us." Mikey insists. "You just liked him more because you couldn't sleep without him."
"Untrue!" Raph immediately retaliates as Donnie barks out a laugh. "I could sleep just fine without—without—"
"Without Mr. Razzmatazz." Leo nods seriously, a glint of amusement in his eye. "Or, as you used to call him, Wazzie."
"Untrue!" Raph exclaims again, his face burning with humiliation. Old memories of himself bubble up to the surface—a time when he was barely old enough to get rid of his lisp, much less spend countless late nights staring at the underside of Mikey's bunk-bed, pretending that bunching up his blankie was just as effective as holding Wazzie and failing miserably.
"It was so adorable." Leo coos and even though he's teasing him, there's a thread of sincerity under the words. "You loved Wazzie, like, so much, dude. I really wish we hadn't lost him in the sewer flood."
Raph feels a small pinch of very old grief, and immediately shoves it down. He keeping the scowl plastered his face and pointedly ignores the sympathetic look Mikey sends him.
"Me too." Dad sighs, reaching to pat him on the head, an affectionate one-two. "Mr. Wazzie helped you in a lot of ways, Raphael. I remember how hard it'd been for you all to go from sleeping together every night to sleeping alone in separate beds. For you, especially."
Raph gulps, caught-out, as the air in the room gets a tad more nostalgic and emotional and weird. Not bad-weird, but still. Weird. Raph doesn't do emotions. He definitely doesn't miss the warmth and security of those nightly turtle piles he'd come to rely on as his favorite method of emotional regulation on bad days—the days where the world sat just a little too close to his skin and set his teeth on edge, the days where he got dibs on the center of the pile and felt Leo, Donnie and Mikey curl around him, heads and arms and legs thrown over his shell like they belonged there. And he definitely doesn't wish they could do that again, just one more time, so the weight could fit him back into his body and make him feel human again.
Well, more or less.
Still, maybe he's just that transparent, or maybe his brothers and father know him better than he expected, because the next thing Donnie says, in a quiet hopeful voice, is, "It's been a while since we've had one right?"
And just like that, the emotion solidifies into something real, a plan for movie night with pizza and popcorn and a blanket fort in the living room with only one mattress on the floor.
Raph makes sure to keep his pressed smile turned towards the trashbags. If they see it, they don't comment.

STOP SCROLLIN MOFOS THIS IS NOT A DRILL 🗣️‼️🐢
I think the Tales of the TMNT trailer literally JUST dropped minutes ago and I’m losing my mind LOOK AT THESE PHOTOS AHHHHHH
“Marry me Raphael” Them having fangirls is amazing… I’m loving that for him
Guys they just look so cute in this 2D style and look at Splinter 🥹
Feelin themselves way too hard with this slow walk. I support it.
Hmmm looks like they might be at April’s house and kiiiiinda looks like Leo and April might be alone hmmmmmm
But seriously after getting sick over these past couple days this is just the good news I need. Genuinely thought we’d have to wait the whole year to see this show and now it’s possibly on a few months away 😭
So I realized that while the promo poster for TMNT mutant mayhem for Scumbag says “scumbag as himself” but in the actual movie Scumbag is referred with she/her pronouns. So in this logic scumbag is a trans woman. Splinter is dating a trans woman, and that my friends is beautiful.
“Bye! kisses 😙😙”
I LOVE HIM HES SO SILLY
Interesting aspect of MM!Splinter
He is consistently correcting people on their words throughout the show.
First, he corrects his kids when they use a term that has negative connotations for rats.
Second, when someone outright calls him a name.
Third, when Superfly not only implies he's lesser by saying he's "a punk about it", but also implying that Splinter is no better than him because they both share a dislike and fear of humans.
Consistently, despite Splinter showing no issue with being a rat and seeming very comfortable with that, he still stands firm on keeping his dignity. He isn't going to let anyone talk bad about him for being a mutant, and he isn't going to let his kids grow up being casual about using hurtful language.
Am I reading too much into this? Maybe. But it's interesting how they went about giving this Splinter his own dignity and honor.
