I have a random (and very stupid) headcanon that I thought I’d ask for your thoughts on:
2012 Irma being a real person all along that at some point offscreen got replaced by a Kraang doppelgänger
Oh boy, you have no idea how much nostalgia you just hit me with. You got me like
I’m a TMNT 2012 veteran, so let me give you a history lesson on this fandom when the show was first airing:
Back in 2014 when the season 2 finale first aired, SO MANY fans were shocked and understandably upset that they revealed that Irma was a robot/Kraang Subprime the entire time. So much so that a popular fan theory was going around in the fandom during the airing for season 3 that Irma was always a real person, but she was captured and replaced by a robot doppelgänger with Kraang Subprime using it as a disguise. I was even on board with that theory, hoping that they would eventually reveal that the REAL Irma was out there locked away in the Kraang prison and the Turtles and April would eventually find her and save her.
Then season 4 came around and we got an answer to the Irma robot body along with a bit of an origin. Season 4 introduced us to the Utrom Council and gave us Rook, who’s an Utrom with a robot body that looks exactly like Irma, just with a different color palette.
And tbh, I like Rook! For what it’s worth, this was a clever way to bring back this character after establishing she was originally a robot. We even learn in the episode “The War for Dimension X” that Rook was the original creator of the Irma Robot body, but Kraang Subprime stole her design and used her model to create more weapons for the Kraang.
So after the introduction of Rook, I kinda abandoned the “Irma is a human and is still out there” theory/headcanon. Like I said, I like Rook. I even made fanart of her for TMNTember 2024
To be clear, I’m not dismissing your headcanon, you are still free to have that headcanon and think of other fun ideas for that concept, but for me I personally I’m not for that headcanon cause I surprisingly like what was given to us in the series.
