July 20th, 2025: A new minarai has started on her journey to becoming a geiko! Tomikiwa (富癸輪) of Tomikiku (富菊) in Gion Higashi will be starting her journey as a geiko, not a maiko, as she is too old to be a maiko. However, this only makes her journey harder as she needs to know both the maiko repertoire and geiko repertoire before debuting! She’s now a geiko!
October 1st, 2025: Not to be outdone by Kamishichiken, Gion Higashi is also celebrating a misedashi! Tomikiwa (富癸輪) of Tomikiku (富菊) is celebrating her debut! Like her maiko peers, she is celebrating with a misedashi and not an erikae as she is not switching from a maiko to a geiko, but rather debuting directly as a geiko! She will be a tachikata geiko and will be performing in the Gion Odori next month, so please look forward to it! November 14th, 2024: A new minarai has emerged! Tomikoma (富胡麻) of Tomikiku (富菊) in Gion Higashi has begun her journey to becoming a maiko. She will be debuting without an onesan, but will be joining a district full of maiko onesan to look up to! Her misedashi will be on December 19th ^^ Image is courtesy of the Tomikiku Okiya.
December 19th, 2024: A new maiko is born! Tomikoma (富胡麻) of Tomikiku (富菊) in Gion Higashi is celebrating her misedashi! Like most girls in Gion Higashi, she is debuting without an onesan, but she has seven older maiko to look up to, including okiya mate Tomieri. It was raining today in Kyoto, so Tomikoma could only make quick introductions in her kuromontsuki before it was time to don an ama coat and go out and about in the neighborhood for her rounds. April 15th, 2022: A new minarai has made her debut in Gion Higashi! Tomifuku (富芙久) is from the Tomikiku (富菊) okiya and she is super cute! She’ll be the first new debut for the district in almost 2 years, showing that Gion Higashi is starting to bounce back after the pandemic. May 14th, 2022: A new maiko is born! Congratulations to Tomifuku (富芙久) of Tomikiku (富菊) in Gion Higashi on the occasion of her misedashi! With Tomifuku’s debut all 5 kagai have now debuted at least 1 new girl this year, a positive sign that the karyukai is bouncing back from the pandemic!
