Reading the intro to Crip Kinship and immediately stumbling over this sentence: "Black men, Black women, and Black trans women continue to be murdered...."
Great example of the erasure of Black trans men, as if they are the only demographic safe from hate crimes.
Tony McDade was called a racial slur and murdered by police in 2020, the year before this book was published.
Tony McDade, assassinated by "tallahassee" police in May, 2020. A police union cruelly misused the "victim's bill of rights," or "Marsy's law" to claim the assassin was the victim, therefore the killer cop's name was never released to the public.
A Florida court has ruled that Marsy's Law, intended to protect victims, also applies to law enforcement, which could have sweeping implications in police use-of-force cases

"This project emerged as a response to anti-Black violence happening in Chicago's Chinatown in the past week and is expanding to respond to anti-Black violence outside of Chicago as well.
We are calling in the non-Black members of our communities to do deep heart work and take bold action. We must acknowledge the ways we have benefited from Black liberation struggles and take responsibility for how we've turned our backs on and actively engaged in the attack on Black lives. We must take all the necessary risks to defend and protect Black people and uplift the demands of Black-led movements for liberation."
