“Then you don’t ever have to see me again.”
His words rang in your head like bells. Loud and clear, scaring you more than they should.
You only stared at him, not knowing what to do.
You were stuck between wanting to talk to him and wanting to push him away.
Your head told you to close the door and forget about everything that was and could’ve been between you.
But your heart told you to let him in again. To trust him even more and give him a second chance.
And as you stood there, staring into each other’s eyes, your heart stared winning.
He noticed the way your eyes softened, the way you opened the door more and stepped to the side.
Left your lips, even though you knew you’d give him more time. You’d actually give him all the time in the world if you could.
His hopeful eyes softened even more as he stepped into your apartment. The familiar warmth of your presence, calming down his nerves.
You closed the door behind him, taking a deep breath as he walked past you. The cologne that filled your nostrils was too familiar.
It made you go back to the nights you cuddled in his bed as he whispered sweet nothings into your ear.
“You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever laid my eyes on.”
“I could stay like this with you forever.”
“You’re so soft, so warm and so mine.”
The problem was, you were never his.
And you thought he was telling the truth. That he meant all the things that were muttered into your ear.
But he still left after saying them. Left you hanging onto nothing. Left you wondering why you weren’t enough.
Yet, he was now standing in your living room, looking around like he wasn’t there for ages.
There was a heavy silence. Louder than the sound of your heart beating.
You took a deep breath as he handed you the flowers he brought you.
You whispered softly, your voice too quiet. He almost didn’t hear you.
He stared at you for a second, just observing you. And realizing how much he missed your face.
Even though it was different.
Your eyes were sunken and dark. But they still held the familiar softness.
You were trying so hard not to smile, which you never did before.
But you were still beautiful. Still so damn beautiful in his eyes.
“You might want to sit down.”
He mumbled out, which you shook your head to.
“Just tell me what you need, please.”
He nodded, clearing his throat. His heart clenching at the sight of you, wrapping your arms around yourself.
“I know what I did. I know why you walked away.”
He mumbled out. He looked so troubled, so out of place.
You’ve never seen him like that. He was always so calm and collected.
“I treated you like you didn’t mean anything. Like I only filled my free time with you.”
You cleared your throat, feeling the lump in it. Your stomach hurted with nerves.
“I know you felt like a toy, maybe still feel.”
You remember him, walking in just to get off. And then leaving like you were just temporary.
“I fucking hate myself for being like that. For treating you like that.“
He stepped closer to you, testing the waters. Wanting to see if you’d move away.
But you didn’t. Your body was frozen in place, listening to what he was saying. Drinking his words up like red wine.
“You didn’t deserve that, baby.”
The old pet name slipped out by mistake. But it well so natural, warming your heart like it did weeks ago.
“You didn’t deserve anything I did. You were there, trying to get past my walls. And I pushed you away, like a damn idiot I am.”
A small smile showed up on your lips, making him smile too.
“I’m not trying to push. I’m not here to beg you to forgive me, because you know I tried.”
He gulped before clearing his throat for the 10th time that moment.
“I just wanted to see your face. To hear your voice. I miss the way you yap about books and your annoying teachers. I miss the way you laugh at my stupid jokes because you don’t want me to be embarrassed.”
He was rambling, talking fast since he knew there wasn’t much time left.
Even though, he had all your time.
“I miss the way your eyes widen when I touch you. The way you try to hold your smile back when I give you a compliment. Or the way your cheeks redden when I give you a kiss on the forehead, because you love it for some reason.”
Your lip trembled as tears streamed down your face.
He knew you too well. You never thought he’d notice those things.
You didn’t notice those things yourself.
You said after seconds of silence and he nodded his head, understanding your fears.
He mumbled out, stepping closer. His hand reaching for yours. And when you didn’t move it away, he tightened his grip.
“I’m scared too. I’m fucking terrified.”
His voice was full of vulnerability he never showed.
“But I’m more scared of losing you. I’d rather be scared with you than scared alone.”
You stared at him, your gaze softening as you noticed the way he stared down at you.
Like you were something fragile, that would break if he’d stare at you any differently.
You looked away for a second before looking back at him.
“But I’d rather be hurting with you than hurting alone.”
You mumbled out, repeating his words.
His eyes widened, his body moving closer to yours.
And before you knew it, you were pressed against his chest. Your arms were tightly wrapped around his neck.
His arms went around your waist quickly, pulling you into him more as he buried his face into your neck.
He breathed in your scent that he craved so much.
He murmured sweet nothings against your skin, caressing it with his fingers.
You played with his long, blonde hair as you tried to calm yourself down.
And even though your chest was pressed against his, you felt like you could finally breathe.
All your problems suddenly disappeared.
Minutes passed since that moment. You were wrapped in each other’s arms, sweat slicking to your bare bodies.
He ran his fingers up and down your back as you traced his tattoos.
You looked up at him, smiling at the sight before you. He looked so calm, so relaxed.
He looked down at you, smiling.
He whispered, which you shook your head to. Both of you knowing that you told him not to apologize again.
“Don’t shake your head at me.”
You giggled, tilting your head back to see him better.
“I’ll say it over and over again, because I was an idiot.”
He looked away for a moment, making you realize he was thinking.
“I’m sorry for giving you less than nothing, for giving you less than you deserve. You deserve every damn thing in the world.”
He mumbled out, making your heart hurt a little.
“Just promise me you won’t ever let me go again.”
Your voice was small, so soft and so scared. Like he would leave in seconds. Like he would make you go through hell and back again.
But the look in his eyes told you he wasn’t going anywhere.
He pulled you more into him, placing a soft kiss against your forehead, your cheeks reddening.
“It’s forever kind of thing, baby.”
