Put together some of my favorite work from 2018! (Oh look all of it is from Inktober. Gottta do more art during the rest of the year! Haha this year I will!!)

Wow, 2018 was something else, wasn't it? The first half of the year I didn't get much accomplished and was pretty much lost. By June is when things slowly but surely started to lighten up. I came to accept the fact that I have bad anxiety and mild depression because of it, and as such, I got help. I started seeing a psychiatrist, and though I was nervous beyond words at first - thinking of myself as a freak, like I wasn't "normal" and was getting judged for it - I actually really started liking the sessions. It was nice being able to vent out my thoughts and feelings and figuring out some ways to handle it all a bit better. I got talked into getting out of the house and hanging out with people at least twice (meeting people I didn't know as well), and I actually had fun. I chose to start expressing myself and letting out my inner goth girl - the part of me that's been there since 2011 but was evidently too afraid to shine through - and learn to except that this is who I am and there's nothing wrong with it. Overall, while the first half of the year was disappointing, the rest of 2018 became a year of embracing who I am, knowing it's okay to seek help when needed, and slowly but surely taking steps to make me happier in life. 2019 is going to be my year, I can feel it. It'll be challenging - getting out of my comfort zone, going out and hanging out with friends and meeting people, applying for jobs, being more independent - but as long as I push myself to take baby steps forward, it'll be worth it. I was confused about the whole Top 9 thing. I thought I just got to pick MY favorite posts of 2018, as opposed to some app telling me which of my posts were the most “liked” by others. Hmmmmm... I decided to post anyway, even though I don’t know if these would have been my top 9 picks. But then I got to looking at them and have decided they are a decent representation of my 3 month Insta experiment that started at the end of September after I sold my first YA book and really tried to figure out what sort of “social media” presence I wanted to have. I feel like I landed on using Insta to be inspiring to other writers/artists /creative types as opposed to sharing my personal life. (Though I will say I miss posting stories! I’ve had the grossest head cold for the last 36 hours and I often thought about what a gross and mucus-filled story I could have posted if i had not already decided to stop for a while. Oh, back to my Top 9... two from my last staff job Boomerang which will be premiering on BET 2/12/19. I made some great new friends in the show. One past staff job on Y&H when I worked for one of my BFFs David Holden, two posts gushing about my husband and our easily hateable adorable relationship. 3 movies that impacted me... CRA, A Star Is Born, and Something’s Gotta Give! And lastly, my digital signature of my new book contract for Anna K, my new YA novel that will be published by Flatiron Books in 2020!
