The Blackwall Tunnel ventilation shafts set between apartment blocks and hotels, London. The Blackwall Tunnel takes road traffic under the River Thames in East London.

The only positive is that the ventilation shafts are vaguely a similar shape to some of the apartment blocks.

How are you coping in the London heatwave? 34c tomorrow and Tuesday 🥵🥵

Not too bad. Thankfully, I've got proper air-conditioning in my bedroom now 🙏 It's an inside/outside unit, not the portable type which is useless.

We're in a house and we own the freehold so there's no restrictions on a/c, but I feel so sorry for the millions in London who are sweltering in tiny flats because the landlords who own the properties won't allow a/c to be fitted. They claim the outside units spoil the look of the buildings! Nightmare for those tenants in these temperatures.

So at the moment I'm sitting reading in the bedroom where it's a blissful 18c (65f) even though the rest of the house is 28c (82f).

Home Office wants to house asylum seekers in empty tower blocks

The Home Office is in talks with more than 100 councils about moving asylum seekers from hotels into empty tower blocks and old student accommodation.
