Meghan Makes Magic: Treat Myself Review
I have put off doing this review for time reasons, and I am happy I did. Since Meghan had announced that her third studio album was coming out, I have been excited. I stan Meghan and I think she’s a great artist (and a great person). I absolutely love her personality and think she is a very hard worker and a great pop songwriter. When she came out with “All About That Bass” in 2014 and made a debut that was SO HUGE it’s hard to ever get that same success again. No one has or even really ever had a debut like that. A songwriter wanting to become an artist with a song about body positivity?, yeah that has never happened before. (”All About That Bass” made a huge impact on pop culture and changed the music industry forever btw). Skip all the way to 2020 and Meghan has released her third studio album “Treat Myself” and her career is in a very different place. Honestly, I feel bad watching her go through these slumps these past few years and not achieve a lot of success on charts and radio. It really doesn’t make sense to why she doesn’t get played that much. During her debut and even her sophomore era, she got A LOT of play on radio and charted all the time on Billboard. Now, she doesn’t chart at all and barely gets played on radio? It is so confusing and I hate seeing it because she makes GREAT POP MUSIC. Anyway, I really like this album. Through all the push backs and delays this era has gone through, she really made a great pop album at the end of the day. Even though I was frustrated during these past few years with the delays the album had, I’m happy it happened because this is music of quality and some singles she released in 2018-19 weren’t that great if we’re being honest. There are some forgettable tracks on the album but, that's with a lot of albums. The production is so good and you can tell she was trying to do something different while still staying true to herself which I greatly appreciate. I love the album photoshoot and cover art too. Some faves and standouts are Wave, Nice to Meet Ya, Genetics, Funk, Workin on It, and Blink. After You is one of my favorite songs ever but I love the solo version more. I am happy Nice to Meet Ya is the new single and I really really want it to become another hit for her. (It debuted at 89 on the Hot 100 last week, becoming her first song since No Excuses to chart, but it departed off the chart this week). She deserves success and I miss pop stars like her. I love you M-train and I want to end this by saying, LISTEN TO THE LOVE TRAIN, MEGHAN’S EP FROM LAST VALENTINES DAY, ITS AMAZING AND AFTER YOU IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS OF ALL TIME.
ok bye.
