Hi, I was wondering what the mean was for trans-fictional because the source I came across didn’t really give a good definition. Also is this identity involuntary?

Transfictional is a term that wasn’t coined in the typical sense (flags, coining post, etc.), so that’s why you’ve been having trouble looking it up. I decided to use it one day, and it stuck.

Transfictional is the label I use to describe my identity as a transspecies person. You know how there’s many ways for one to be transgender and how some people label themselves ‘transmasc’ or ‘transfem’ to describe their experiences with gender? I use transfictional like that since there’s many ways to be transspecies as well.

If I had to define it, it would be something like this:

Transfictional: A term that describes a transspecies person whose identity is rooted in, influenced by, or generally based on fiction.

In the transspecies community, nonhumanity is a core part of a lot of people’s experiences. For me, my experiences involve humanity and nonhumanity but neither are the core part of my identity. Fiction is. I use ‘transfictional’ and ‘fictionkin’ interchangeably to express this.

As a shapeshifter, my base form is a fictional concept. When I experience being an animal or a nonhuman being outside of fiction, I still perceive my forms in a fictionalized way as I undergo phantom shifts. That’s why I label myself ‘transfictional’. Upon taking up this label, I was inspired by my friend Jude; they’re an android who’s transspecies. Jude is transhuman, to be specific— not in the posthuman/philosophical sense (see: transhumanism) but in the literal sense as an android who is also human.

As for involuntariness, anyone can be transfictional. I don’t make the rules nor do I have any interest in doing that. All I did was put a prefix in front of an adjective and called it a day, so if you (or anyone else) feel like it applies to you, go wild!
