It was a lot of fun and I only cried once. 😂 (that was because the “free mom hugs” group in the parade always hits me right in the feels.) Hi! No rush to respond to this. Just wondering if you have any morning and/or bedtime routines you do as a system to prepare for the day or get ready for sleep? Hope you're feeling safe today 💙

Thank you for sending such a nice ask. I’m happy to share. 

Our mornings are usually really blurry. It’s pretty common for us to wake up confused or with parts present who aren’t grounded in the present. We try to get out of bed as soon as we’re awake, because laying in bed lost in thought can make things worse. We have plants in our windowsill and the first thing we do every morning is check on them and turn on their grow lights. That routine is very grounding. It’s helpful to take a second to look out the window and remember that we live here now, that we’re not in the place where we grew up. 

Even though different parts can end up fronting in the morning, we try really hard to be consistent about breakfast, medications, etc. When it’s time to get to work we get dressed for the day and going through that routine seems to cue Jude to be present for work. 

We’re not really strict about going to bed at the same time every night, but we do try to stick to the same routine no matter what time we go to sleep. After we do all the usual teeth brushing, face washing, etc and take our pills we try to spend a few minutes checking in with everyone internally. This doesn’t always happen, but we try. We have a rule about not laying in bed and ruminating about upsetting things, so if we aren’t tired then sometimes we read for a while but we don’t lay there and think about sad or scary things. If we’re stuck thinking about upsetting things then we get out of bed and do it somewhere else. Usually by the time we’re in bed we’re so tired that we fall right to sleep.
