Trick headcanon that's knocking around in my brain right now:

He's allergic to bananas but didn't put two and two together until he started dating Bridgey because Joey just yelled at/made fun of him for saying bananas were spicy and made his mouth itch. It's not until Bridgey's like "um, babe, bananas aren't supposed to be spicy" that he figures out he's allergic
