I feel like I've to switch to saying something else and this is horrible. it isn't a word meant for neurotypicals why the fuck are they throwing it around jesus fucking christ

this just in:
trigger jokes aren’t funny
sincerely,

what’s with Snapchat stories being ableist af lately??? like, first buzzfeed. I’m not sure if anyone remembers/saw this but they had a pic that said something along the lines of: ‘send this with the name of someone that really ~triggers you~’
I can’t tell you how shocked and furious I was to see that. Then now, like just yesterday, I saw a different one that said ‘fidget spinners are so lame look at these actually ~cool~ gadgets instead!’
You can’t just decide… that something neurodivergent kids require to stim is ‘lame’, because you’re done profiting off of it…
Smarmychristopagan is making "triggered" jokes about other people on her blog. Would you prefer the exact post before you come up with an excuse to forgive her for ableism, or should we just jump ahead to the part where you excuse it?
Here are the posts in question. Note: I’m fairly certain the anon in question was butthurt that i made fun of them for trying to “liberal-cred” shame me into selling them nudes.
I’m a person who experiences literal medical triggers, an occasional ironic joke on the topic isn’t some awful ableist sin particularly when it’s tagged appropriately and not aimed at a ND person, but some anonymous creep.

"I don't like trigger jokes" "what, are you triggered by them????" Hah... oh, boy. The peak of humor. Truly.... so creative. No, no, really. I'm laughing on the inside
The truth of the matter is that privileged people have all of society as a safe space; our culture and even our laws are formed around their comfort. The most unequal laws of history have existed to protect the safe space of those in power — a space safe from abortions, from queer marriages, from black people and women voting, from anything that challenges their supremacy. Many of the people catered to by the entire setup of society are the same ones who would claim that life never gave them a “safe space.” Of course the privileged don’t understand the need for such a space. Safe spaces exist to give marginalized people a quiet moment of respite from a society that has done everything in its power to disenfranchise and disempower us. Those who have power, money, and influence have never experienced such a thing. The world has been made safe for them from the beginning.

lately i've been seeing a bunch of posts that i like and agree with until i see a trigger joke casually slipped in and no one bats an eye and i die a little inside
This is one of the best articles I’ve seen detailing what triggers are, and why trigger jokes are not - and never have been - funny.
