How things stand at the start vs the end of the 10th year. Oof. (Ages/heights not adjusted)
So. In the wrath of the triple goddess book, Hecate States that Percy will definitely be her go-to petsitter for her pets now if she wishes for him. And..well. That book and the chalice of the gods both take place between the either 8 or 6 months (i don't remember the exact amount of time) it took for Apollo to lose his mortality and then be dropped into mortal world for his punishment/trials. Which means by the time Apollo's Trials finish, Percy and Annabeth are already in new rome and via The last magnus chase book we know they are informed of current affairs (Jason's death) but that's not what I want to talk about...
So one of Hecate's pets is a dog named Hecuba. Not just any dog. We are obviously told that she is The actual Queen Hecuba of Troy. And you wanna know something special about her? One of her sons was Trolius. She had him with Apollo which means an external affair with him was going on in the background of the Trojan war. Now Trolius dies a horrible death in Achilles's hand right infront of the steps to Apollo's Temple. (Achilles tried to seduce Trolius and when Trolius refused he brutally murdered him before he could reach his father's temple for help. Trolius was 17 when this happened btw. Also there was a separate prophecy about the fact that if he reached 21 years of age Troy would never fall so yeah...) And Hecuba gets turned into a dog.
Fast forward to the current timeline in the Pjo universe and Percy gets assigned to Dogsitting again by Hecate. So imagine he and the seven (+ Nico, will, Reyna, Thalia, Grover and calypso) Hanging out and Hecate's pets just chilling nearby and Lester decides to visit them. After a while for talking and catching up with everyone Apollo notices the dog staring at him.. strangely he feels rather... Melancholy for the dog? Then he asks Percy about it and he goes.
Percy: Oh. She's Hecate's pet. Hecuba. I'm petsitting.
Apollo: (shocked)....as in the queen of Troy?....
Percy: (oblivious) yep that one.
Apollo: (Memories of his time spent with her flood back in absolute sorrow and the tragedy of his once favourite son's death)... (Immediately starts sobbing to everyone's utter confusion)
And then when they try to ask or what's wrong or comfort him. Hecuba goes near him and climbs atop on him and licks his cheeks before whimpering and nuzzling his face. It does nothing but make him cry harder and hug her tight. Blabbering like a maniac about her previous human beauty and the unfortunate tragedy of Troy. (He had convinced himself he got over it yet now after Thousands of years seeing her made the memory stung fresh). He wants to desperately wants to turn her back but knows he can't afford to make Hecate mad. So he just clings to the dog and she just stays there. A sorrowful and rather miserable yet comforting reunion with her former lover.
And the demigod group? Confused. They feel sorry for them but also have no idea what the hades is going on. (And poor Will just stands there wondering why his Dad is so sad regarding the dog) After a while, they try to pry them apart because They need to return the pets to Hecate. Apollo leaves. Distraught of what became of a once beautiful and kind Queen that was once his lover and mother of his child. Hecuba stays quiet and broken, nothing Hecate does cheers her up as the memories of her lover and son pop up again. They both take weeks to go back to normal.
And that is all. A headcanon that has been fixed in my brain for a while now. Just needed to write it down.

In Greek mythology, Troilus is a young Trojan prince, one of the sons of King Priam and Hecuba. As he is so beautiful, Troilus is taken to be the son of the god Apollo. However, Hecuba's husband, King Priam, treats him as his own much-loved child. A prophecy says that Troy will not fall if Troilus lives into adulthood. So the goddess Athena encourages the Greek warrior Achilles to seek him out early in the Trojan War. Achilles ambushes him and his sister Polyxena. The young prince takes refuge in the nearby temple but the warrior follows him in, and beheads him at the altar before help can arrive. This sacrilege leads to Achilles’ own death, when Apollo avenges himself by helping Paris strike Achilles with the arrow that pierces his heel. X
