A specific trope thing I like:

A nonhuman character: *Shrieking or roaring, showing their 'scary face' when they think they're facing a threat of some kind.*

Their human companion, who has been with them for a while and is completely nonplussed at this point, as they sip their coffee: Good morning to you, too.

the flip side of the idiot plot aka the Calling You An Idiot Plot in which all the characters act sensibly within the established rules of the world/the genre only for the story to turn around and call them an idiot for it.

examples include Kristoff Frozen making fun of Anna for falling in love with a guy she just met in a Disney Film and Mysterio Spiderman-Homecoming calling Peter and Fury idiots for believing a guy came from another dimension in a universe where half the world population dying was solved with fucking time travel

Fave trope:

When at the darkest point in the story One character asks  another

“what are you gonna do when we get out of here?”

And  they start going into vividbeautiful detail of the life they want to live once everything is said and done and jusT AGAGAGGA I LOVE IT

oof so i really want more of this thing where the characters met briefly in their childhood, but they don't really remember it and the meeting itself doesn't greatly impact the story? it feels like a little gift just for me~

Awhile ago I answered one of those writer prompt things about tropes you would never write. I’m adding “All just a delusion lol” to that list, especially if it’s being used as a means of excising all supernatural elements. I don’t necessarily mind if the experience was in the character’s head or a dying dream or whatever, but I do mind when the work uses that to remove any and all non-ordinary/supernatural elements, or to imply that their experience wasn’t “real,” for lack of a better word, or didn’t matter.

I've internally romanticized the "sad social shut-in main character meets mysterious entity and falls in love and then goes off to do something significant in the world together" trope since I was like 12 years old. And now I'm reaping what I sow it seems.

I'm just as miserable and exhausted as depressed!Y/N is in every fanfiction ever, but instead of meeting my soulmate or going on a magical adventure, all I've got is trust issues and THC lmao
