Happy Thanks Truthsgiving!
Please remember the truth about thanksgiving. What we learn about is a lie. It wasn’t some magical time of togetherness. It was vile. Now don’t get me wrong, It’s okay to want to come together with your family and share what you’re thankful for but don’t do it under the guise of this lie that was crammed down our throats for many years.
Please make this year #Truthsgiving and learn the true history of this holiday. Below is a link that will share with you the history as well as show you ways you can help support the Native Americans within your community.
And how you can support Native communities this holiday and beyond.
Remember to spread awareness and boost voices. Have a wonderful day.
truthsgiving
on this day of mourning for indigenous americans, i want to make it known and available to those who are unaware of the true history of this holiday.
i am not indigenous, so i will keep my words short. what i will say is that we did not learn the truth in elementary school, where our classrooms were split - one half labeled “pilgrims” and the other labeled “indians” - to come together and feast on popcorn and pretzels. false mythologies are still being perpetuated throughout this country and the world beyond, and it needs to stop.
i cannot put it any better than what is said in their own words, and so i’ll leave you with two resources with which you can educate yourselves:
Truthsgiving: The True History of Thanksgiving
Truthsgiving: The Truth Will Not Be Whitewashed
if folks have any further resources they’d like to share in the notes, feel free to do so.
as an educator, it is my responsibility to teach the truth. i hope that you in turn shall do the same.
Before going further, I want to take a moment to pay respect and remembrance to those who were forced from their homes and killed during early American period (late 18th and early 19th century) and their descendants who underwent forced sterilization, placed in foster care and residential schools across the Americas during the between the 1870s and 1990s.
kakichihiwewin ᑲᑭᒋᐦᐃᐁᐧᐃᐧᐣ is a Cree word that reverberates through the generations and means the act of consoling and // or healing with words. Words can be weapons and tools of destruction, or they can be tools for healing that reclaim stories, identities, and land.

What Native Land do you Reside On? An Interactive Map
157 years ago, White Antelope was shot in front of his home while wearing a Presidential medal of Peace and flying the American flag 🇺🇸
He was murdered on the command of Colonel Chivington, who led the 1st and 3rd Colorado Calvary, during the now infamous Sand Creek Massacre. 250-300 women and children were killed and mutilated during the unprovoked raid on White Antelope’s encampment, in one of the worst mass shootings in US history.
And how you can support Native communities this holiday and beyond.
Behind the facts about the "giving" holiday from an indigenous woman perspective.
Land acknowledgment as suggested in the text is a start. Indigenous culture needs revival and the truth to be spoken about the first inhabitants of North America. Happy thankstaking Day America!
In this op-ed, Christine Nobiss, MA (Religious Studies), Plains Cree/Saulteaux of the George Gordon First Nation and Decolonizer with Seeding Sovereignty, explains why she organized Truthsgiving in resistance to Thanksgiving. Her work with Seeding…
