I know that after his time in the Commission Five was taught a lot of things and is now very skilled and knowledgeable in a lot of aspects but what about when Five first joined the commission??

He's theoretically smart, he's done his reading in the apocalypse, he's naturally very intelligent, he has some rusty fighting skills from the academy.

But imagine a 58 year old man who can teleport and survived decades in the apocalypse arriving at the Commission and they're all intimidated. And then they just watch him staring at a coffee machine because he doesn't know how it works. He hasn't even had coffee before but he's An Adult and other Adults are doing it.

He doesn't want to ask anyone because he has no social skills and hasn't communicated with a single human since he was 13. For the same reason he'll sometimes blurt out things that seem a bit too "child like" for him because he didn't get to be a part of society as an adult so he doesn't know what he's doing. Sometimes the others will catch him glancing at them and copying what they're doing because he needs help but he doesn't know how to ask for it.

They think he's not talking to them because he hates them, and he lets them believe that, when in reality he flinches every time someone passes by him or says hello. First time they see him teleport is when Dot cheekily sneaks up on him and he blinks to the other side of the building.

He can't eat more than a bite of food they give him and at the beggining he throws it up almost immediately because his body isn't used to it.

They all have to pretend they're not seeing him carrying Dolores with him everywhere. The Handler suggested he leaves her in the apocalypse and he got very upset at that so it didn't happen.

They initially gave him a little nameplate that said "Mr Hargreeves" and he smashed it on the wall as hard as he could so they just started using "Mr Five" instead. He doesn't like being called that so much because it makes him realize how old he is. Since when do people call him "Mister"??

A new recruit sees a small old man with a mannequin under his arm cursing at a microwave and complaining to said mannequin about how she "distracted him into pressing the wrong button" and they have to believe he's the greatest assassin the commission has.

I just realized the commission had to teach five how to drive I-

Now I cant stop picturing this:

The handler: okay now you’re family is crossing the cross walk, what do you hit

Five: um....good point, Idk it really depends on who pissed me off the most that day and-

The handler, about to lose her mind: Oh my god, you hit the breaks five, THE DAMN BREAKS

Me: yeesh, the handler kinda got kicked to the curb by the commission, thats kinda roug-

The handler: *is mean to dot*

Also, is it weird I kinda ship Herb and Dot? It’s probably weird, I’m weird.

Let’s talk season 2 of the umbrella academy and on how conflicted I am about the comission.

On one hand I really like that Herb and Dot got to be more fleshed out characters.They made me laugh aand Diego having a taste of what Five did was fun and it lead to some amazing banter between him and Five and I’m always here for amazing banter between the siblings + they helped the Hargreeves with another suitcase and are going to hide the pile of bodies left behind by Vanya and that’s really nice .

On the other hand.. As Five said in the end season 1: “the comission is bullshit” and Five was right to leave it.

They are here to preserve the timeline and keep the balance between free will and “what’s meant to be”, except from what we see in season 2, the board of directors are not gods or fate (or whatever else you want to call higher beings who decide what’s meant to be) so who are they to decide what’s meant to be and what isn’t ? and is there someone higher than them deciding everything ? we don’t know the answer to those questions (and to be fair this might get answered later in the series) so from what we know, the comission is essentially an organisation who restrain free will and freedom. They were planning to let Vanya kills billions of people in season 1 and actually made it happen ? 

They left a 13 year old kid alone in a apocalyptic wasteland for 45 years before getting to him and maybe this isn’t on Dot completely because there is the issue of the Handler but let’s be real she is not completely blameless in all of this, contrary to Five and now Lila, she and Herb are still working for them.
