Gravity vs Love (But they Both Have a Pull)

Whoever said "love makes the world go 'round" was an idiot. At least, Alex thought so. Love didn't do shit about the spinning of the earth. that was the fault of gravity, inertia, and the vacuum of space leaving them spinning and catalyzing both their lives and their deaths. 

So, no, love didn't make the world go round. 

But, he'd found it did make it worth the ride. 

He'd gone through lots of tough times. First when his grandmother had passed away in the hospital right in front of him, the golden chain with the cross pendant in her cold, clammy hand, the last thing she'd ever given to him, that he always wore to keep her close. Then when his parents had found out he was gay, not kicking him out but not welcoming him, taking his love for them and twisting it into a knife to stab him in the back. there were too many others to list. 

But that love he'd had for his grandmother and for his parents was still there in his heart, burning like a frozen flame, dancing with mirth and fear and fury and hope. And he’d hoped it wouldn't leave for the rest of his life. 

That love, always there but always in the background, overshadowed by the love given to and fro between his bandmates, the people who were more of a family to him than the ones who should've been, the people who loved him unconditionally. 

So when he lay in the back of the ambulance, gut wrenched with pain, hands clasped with Luke's and Reggie's, the lines between that horrible pain and the furious love in his heart blurred, like a spiderweb of passion and stabbing hurt.

He still had so much love to give, so many more lives to touch, and now that opportunity was being taken from him. 

He reached the dark room. He knew he'd died, and he felt stupid, mourning his own death. But he did. He did, because he never got to give all the love trapped inside him, never got to make up with his parents, never got to hug his band one last time, never got to tell his little siblings goodbye. 

So he sat in the dark and cried.

because i just can’t stop making fun of zuko here are some more hcs about him in a modern au!!

he doesn’t know any modern phrases. in contrast, iroh knows all of them. this culminates in “UNCLE WHY WOULD YOU ASK ME TO SPILL TEA”

he tried to take a selfie for uncle iroh but he accidentally did the SOS thing with the power button

he keeps getting new versions of the iphone because he’s a rich kid but he doesn’t know how to use any of them ever and he just keeps hoping the updates will make it easier to use

his iphone password is 123456 because he didn’t know how to change it to 4 digits

he still forgets the password regularly

he doesn’t have contacts saved for anyone except for iroh, who did it himself because he knew zuko wouldn’t do it

he either has his phone on silent or he has the ringer at maximum volume, there’s no in between

sokka made his phone alarm and ringtone the most obnoxious sound ever but zuko has no clue how to change it

katara made his voicemail say “hello, zuko here. i’m sorry, i didn’t pick up because i don’t know how to. please don’t call me back.” 

she’s right. zuko has no idea how to answer a phone call and is also not interested in doing so. ever.

toph gave him one of those massive phone cases that make the phone’s dimensions like 5x bigger, and zuko can barely hold it but doesn’t dare replace it 

he’s also convinced the phone will break if he takes the case off.

aang set his lock screen to pictures of appa and momo and zuko doesn’t have the heart to change it. he also doesn’t know how to, but that’s beside the point.

suki tried to explain to zuko the importance of having a screen protector but gave up after zuko said “toph can fix it with glassbending” for the 17th time

toph can, in fact, glassbend, but that’s beside the point
