A Vampire Dairies-inspired AU where:
after the deaths of his brothers, cas is the sole guardian of both of their children, jack and claire
(so kinda see it as jack = jeremy, claire = elena)
he accepts the challenge and adopts them both
however there’s a monster problem in Sioux Falls
claire accidentally gets bitten by a werewolf
claire reveals this to jack and is notably Freaked Out
things get worse when Dean Winchester starts teaching history at the local high school
as soon as he arrives, werewolves start going missing
Castiel and Dean meet face to face for the first time during an open house
they initially hate each other because Dean is notably more curt and hurtful towards claire in his class
((dean suspects she’s a werewolf but can’t prove it))
soon that hate turns into UST
soon that UST leads to some angry hate sex
cas says it will be a one time thing bc its wrong to sleep with his adoptedd daughter’s teacher
but after that happens they actually can’t keep their hands off each other
so they tentatively start dating
and it goes really really well
until dean suggests that he spend the night for the first time
which is super okay with Cas
until dean starts acting really weird around Claire that night
its almost enough to put Cas off
but claire leaves to hang out with friends and dean goes back to normal so he kind of forgets about it
Dean meets Jack and they get along okay
though Jack is Very Nervous around Dean for some reason
but he’s very tentative anyway, so Cas doesn’t think about it
the evening goes well and Cas is actually very happy
only to be awakened in the middle of the night to Jack screaming from his bedroom
Cas wakes up to find dean already sprinting down the hall
Cas freaks out and rushes into Jack’s room to find Claire in her shifted form growling in the corner of the room, with Dean pointing the gun at her
Jack is safely outside the room, but he’s scared for claire
Cas is notably horrified that Dean has a loaded gun pointed at his daughter/niece
he screams at dean to stop it, what the hell is he thinking??
dean tells him that he’s sorry but his daughter is a monster, and clicks the gun back, and fires
thankfully claire sees it coming and dodges the bullet
that distracts Dean for a quick second
enough for wolf!claire to get the upper hand and tackle him to the ground
Cas decides to take jack to the car/safety
then goes back in for claire
by this time, the sun is coming up and claire has calmed down, though she still has the upper hand on dean
dean’s gun has gotten away from him
cas picks it up and a shaking claire looks down at herself and starts to freak out
Cas tells her she’s okay and to get behind him as he trains the gun on Dean
he demands to know what the hell is going on and why the fuck dean tried to kill his daughter
Dean tells him (again) that Claire is a ‘monster’
Cas sends claire to get his pair of handcuffs
they handcuff dean to a chair
Cas tells Claire to take herself and Jack to their friends house
then cas continues to integrate Dean
(maybe kind of like how Dean interoggated Ketch in 13x07)
Dean eventually spills that monsters are real and that he hunts them
specifically a certain werewolf who was responsible for the death of his mother
Cas believes him, but forces Dean to comply that he will not hurt Claire or he will get his own silver bullet
they enter into a relative peace between them
they don’t talk about continuing to date because cas is Pissed
they keep their distances until someone else goes missing
Cas demands to know if Dean had anything to do with it
They decide that they should work together to find out what is going on
that’s when they start to get close again
they decide to bring in Claire so that she knows to protect herself
they decide not to tell Jack because he’s too young/innocent and has nothing to do with anything
that is, until Jack is the next one to go missing
Dean calms him down and they look at things respectively
and associate of Dean’s is called in and they point out that the signs Dean’s been tracking are Demonic Signs
they conclude that the thing that has been taking people is a demon
though they are confused as to why Jack would be taken when they discover that all those who go missing are Supernatural
‘jack isn’t supernatural’ cas insists
‘that you know of’ dean states
they track Jack down to find that he’s been taken by Azazel, the monster responsible for Dean’s mother’s death
he’s set up to bring back Lucifer, the Devil
cas demands to know why Jack is needed
azazel simply says he need his blood because ‘like father like son’
dean uses the colt to shoot Azazel dead
they rescue all of the captured people
Dean is super freaked out to find his estranged brother Sam in the mixture of people
Cas freaks out because what did Azazel mean? Jack, what did he mean?
Jack then tells about the day of when his parents (Kelly and Nick) died
he said he had an episode where something screamed in his head, and so he started freaking out, which caused his parents to lose control of their car, and fall over a bridge.
Cas recalls that it was a ‘miracle’ that Jack survived
Jack argues that he was never hurt in the crash in the first place, and claims that it was his fault that his parents are dead
Cas reassures him that it’s not his fault
Dean and him share a look of concern
they go home and Sam, Dean, Cas, Claire, and Jack sit around the table to sit around to discuss what has happened.
eventually, things return to normal
claire occasionally gets in trouble, but goes pretty well in school
Jack begins to make more friends, and becomes especially fond of Sam
Dean continues teaching at the highschool, and dating Cas
everything is relatively perfect
until Lucifer shows back up in town in search for his son
